  • Am I crazy? Arriving in Vegas at 8 pm New Years Eve!

I really wish I could find a flight leaving at 2-3 and arriving at 5-6 pm.....but so far, I have found a 4:45 arriving at 7:45.

Even if I do carry-on - I still wouldn't be leaving the airport until after 8 pm....I am staying at the Jockey Club right on the strip - and since the strip is closed to traffic - I think I will have to be dropped at the Bellagio and walk over there,,,,,so am I crazy????

    Can I do this?

Or should I just leave much earlier and arrive before 5 pm? DH was planning on working half a day before we go.

Yes, but it is New Years Eve!

I just checked Southwest - they have a non-stop that leaves at noon.....DH might have to bite the bullet and leave early from work....

you can take e.tropicana from the airport to kaval ln. street parallel to the strip. traffic was not too bad around 9:00 pm last year.

New Year's Eve in Las Vegas is great but I would rather be in Time Square in NYC that night even if it is colder. I guess you want a change and why not? Good for you, Pat!

            Pat,
I'd take the earlier flight. Once The Strip is closed to traffic I don't think you'll even be able to get to the side of the Bellagio, because the taxi would then be stuck. Once the boulevard (Las Vegas Blvd) is closed, no traffic will be going across it either.

The closest you'd be able to get would be Koval and Flamingo, and that is a couple of blocks from the Jockey, with you wheeling a suitcase through a crowd. Personally I wouldn't try it.

Hope you enjoy your trip! As Bigfrank said, it could be cold, especially if it is windy.

              Another vote for Earlier Flight.

Thanks for all the good advice.....ISP is 10 minutes from DHs office - he will have to bite the bullet and leave earlier then planned.

                Earlier flight it is!

Couldn't you take Koval to Harmon and have the taxi drop you off at Harmon and Vegas Blvd? That would be roughly 1/2 block south of the Jockey Club. However, you still would have to make your way across the strip.

What time on New Year's Eve do they close the strip?

The Strip is closed between 6 PM and 7 PM generally. The taxi wouldn't be willing to go to Harmon and Las Vegas because he wouldn't be able to cross or turn around once he got there. He'd be stuck.
