I have read some bad reviews on the conditions of the original units at this resort.
I have a Two bedroom unit reserved for next week.
Will the resort honor unit requests?
Any advise on what unit to ask for?

This trip is to celebrate my wife's birthday on Sunday and I wanted to take her to a nice Sunday brunch.
    Any recommendations?
Then were renting a Jeep and taking the solider Pass road trip.
Last time I took broken arrow but the wife was scared and I want her to enjoy the outing this time.
Any recommendations on other jeep trails that will be fun but won't scare her?

What is the source of your week?
If DRI THE Club, you will get what you reserved, there are three phases, original, Mesa, Sunset, each costing more than the last. If through RCI the source may be an individual owner in original phase, and the resort will probably assign an original phase unit and the sales team will upgrade you immediately if you buy!! If II THE Club probably only put original phase units in as deposits and the resort will probably assign an original phase unit and the sales team will upgrade you immediately if you buy!!

Plan on an original unit, which were quite nice when I was there.

Re Jeep: There might be some info on this thread HERE which can give you some inspiration.

As for Brunch, L'auberge in uptown or Enchantment...our preference is Enchantment....both pricey events, but the views at Enchantment and the ambience are great.

It never hurts to ask...or call ahead. Maybe mention your DW's birthday....I don't know if they do honor requests, but I know one person who did get moved when they were not happy with their location...but that was 2 years ago, don't know if things have changed.

            Thanks for all the links.
This is a RCI exchange. I have sent family members to this resort twice in the past on RCI exchanges and they received new units both times without asking.

Check-in was the worst of any resort I have ever stayed. Befor they would give us the keys they kept up the constant pressure to sign us up for a sales tour. We said no were not interested atleast 8 different times and she kept at it. When we arrived their was no line but when we left the couple befor us was still at the desk and agreed to the tour. Lots of people did build up waiting behind us to check-in.
I didn't make any special unit request and we were assigned a Two bedroom unit in Bldg 35
This looked like the newest section of the resort with buildings 32 thru 40
The units in this group are not the lock-off type units found in the rest of the resort. Unit was very nice with Granite counter tops in kitchen and bathrooms.
Lots of tile on the bathroom walls and floor, walk in showers and wirlpool tubs in both bathrooms. Large Flat screen TV's wall mounted in living room and both bedrooms. comfortable king size beds in both bedrooms. our unit had a partial red rock view from the patio and master bedroom.
one downside was the living room furniture was very uncomfortable to sit on. The fake leather sofa has large cushions that slide out when you try and sit on them. The two chairs are better but not comfy by any means.
skinny dining room table with only three chairs to save space. they do have a fabric covered bench seat along the wall for the table.
Kitchen inventory was very sparse and they don't provide a inventory sheet to let you know what you should have. We didn't have any sharp knifes except for steak knifes. lots of missing glasses and plates but with just the wife and I it was not a issue. found a dirty spatula in the drawer and the unit was not as clean as it could be. Gave me the impression they were not maintaining the units as well as they should be.
Resort has WIFI internet but it costs $30 per week or $6.95 per day.
Two computers in check-in building offer free internet use. these were always in use with several people waiting when I checked. The have a note limiting each user to 30 mins but with only two computers for this large of a resort its means you are going to have to wait if you want to use one.
Nice pool area with rock waterfalls and huge infinity Hot Spa on the upper level. Best pool area in the resort but their is another huge infinity hot Spa with a breathtaking view of the red rocks located between building 25 & 24
in another section of the resort.
Buildings 20 thru 31 are in that section and are all lock-off type. Some of these have alot of stairs down from the parking lot and then back up to the units on the second floor. all these stairs may not be for everyone but the views from these unit would make it well worth it to me. My sister and daughter have stayed in this section in the past and said the units were in excellent condition and had Flat screen TV's
The original section units 1 thru 17 seem to be the least desirable.
We looked thru a unit in building 12 when they were cleaning it.
It was ok but pretty plain compared to the unit we were in.
I have stayed at sister resort the Ridge Sedona a few times and the units their looked newer and more updated than these did. Same lock-off style but the Ridge had nicer units than this one.

We just returned from Sedona Summit and were in Building 20; not refurbished, no flat screen TV, very uncomfortable beds and pillows, BUT nice back patio with unobstructed Red Rock views. We had free WI-FI, but only lucky with that because we're AT&T internet subscribers; otherwise the fee applies. There weren't too many people waiting for the free computers in the lobby. When we checked in, we made it very clear we had no free time for a tour, and we weren't pestered again. Next time we go, we'll definitely reserve a remodelled unit even if it doesn't have the view...we value a good night's rest on vacation. We took the Broken Arrow Pink Jeep tour through a rain and hailstorm, and it was very exciting. DH has bad back, but sat in front seat and it was wonderful. The very back of the jeep is for thrill seekers. We're old enough to say it was like "an E-ticket at Disneyland". Our favorite restaurant there is Shugrues, but not open for breakfast. Reserve a window table at Sundown and you won't be disappointed. Near SS is the Barking Frog, very convenient, inexpensive barbeque, and decent food. If you can't get a discount coupon for it at the resort, you can get one from the DRI Carneys downtown.
                Have a wonderful time.

Are you a DRI owner? Or was this a RCI or II exchange?
How many people were waiting to check-in when you arrived?

Another problem I had was the check-in rep told me she was getting a message that I needed to call my credit card company to verify when she ran my card required at check-in. I handed her another card to use.
I contacted my card Company and was told Sedona Summit resort attempted to put thru a $900 charge and their security software flagged it as a possible fradulent transcation and suspended the account untill they could verify the charge with me.
I feel the check-in agent put thru the higher than normal deposit charge to check if we could use this card for a purchase down payment.
I suspect the check-in agents are paid a commision on every guest they signup to take the sales tour and some are going to be more pushy and sly than others to make the extra money.
I didn't like it at all and will reflect this on the RCI comment card.
Check-in should be for check-in and not for pushing sales tours.
Its bad enough at resorts that check you in and then send you over to the concerige desk for your free check-in gift or parking pass so they can then push a sales tour. I just skip the concerige desk in that case to avoid that inconvience. Holding my room keys hostage is the lowest I have ever encountered in over 28 years of timesharing.
I have sent two other family members to this resort over the last 2 years and they have reported the same check-in sales tour push befor receiving the Keys to the unit.

We're DRI owners and have experienced the dog and pony show so often that we arrive prepared, "thank you for asking, we have absolutely no spare time", and she says, "I'm just doing my job, have a nice stay". End of conversation.

We arrived Friday at 3:30pm, and we went right to check in.

Is this sales tour push at check-in normal for all DRI resorts then?
I will use your approach in the future if i experience this again.
I have never had a sale tour pushed on me at the check-in desk befor getting the keys befor and was taken alittle by surprise.

I had read the DRI owners can reserve the newer and upgraded units but at a higher points cost. I understand the standard units are the oldest and require the lowest points cost but unsure of the actual difference bewteen the Mesa and sunset class units.

The sales pitch is guaranteed to occur at any DRI resort that has a sales office on site. Didn't happen at Marquis Villas in Palm Springs as there's no sales office there, or at least there wasn't one last time we were there. Every other DRI resort we've been to the concierge was very forceful. Just know who you're dealing with (or tell them you wouldn't consider doing the tour for anything less than $_______) and you'll have your keys quickly. And yes, DRI owners can reserve the newer and upgraded units at a higher points cost, which I will definitely do next time. We all live and learn.
