  • Noah's ark

One of the brothers that built Noah's ark and got the dells started on the track of a major tourist attraction died Friday,Turk Waterman and his brother Jack started Noah's ark in 1978. I remember bringing my children there that year, my daughter a few months old. They built every ride there, I mean physically built them, eventually sold it and built Black Wolf Lodge, when sold changed to Great Wolf Lodge, knuckleheads and buffalo phils. Started the outlet mall. They had a great work ethic and were instrumental in the growth of the dells to a year round destination attracting five million visitors a year. Not bad for a town of 2500

    Wow!
What a nice legacy for them.
It's amazing what you can do if you have vision.
I think the same of Orlando.
Disney turned that swamp into my happy place and I am forever grateful.

Have never done that, but know of it.

When we are down there in 2 weeks, we have 2 things planned: Fawn Creek winery (DW wants to pick up more of the Rasp Beary or Black Beary wine and no, I am not spelling that incorrectly) and I hope to do the upper river boat ride. Been a few years since I have last done that. But, no Noah's ark.

Oops, did misspell it. Black Bear-y.

Many of the big attractions in dells were started by locals who had the vision to plow profits back in and make a small attraction a great one. They also support the dells locals. One man donated three and a half million to the high school to build an indoor pool so kids would learn water safety.

Tommy Bartlett. Don't know if he was local, but he sure put a lot into the area.

            Noah's ark

Yes, he spent his last years in assisted living here. He hired Tom Diehl out of college, brought him back every year to manage the workers, sold him 25 per cent of business. When he died, he left it all to him. The school kids get a free special show each year. The residents get a postcard for a free show in June every year.

I went to see the Noah's Ark show in Branson.
              It was amazing!

An incredible show really made you feel like you were in the Ark,
              animals and all.
It was at the Sight & Sound Theater.
