Both of those were brought back a few years ago but are supposedly gone again. The standing rock in the daylight at 60 plus years of age did not look nearly as tall it did at night at 6 years of age over 50 years ago.

The Dells ceremonial dance a few years ago IMHO was far more colorful and superior in all ways to the Rhythm Of the Night in Puerto Vallarta.

The Dells dance about about 5 more people and was far more energectic.

I have heard rumors of several suposed reasons why the Dells dances ended which one was that they are making so much from the casino that they did not need the income from the dance.

I do not want to think it is sour grapes by some of the non American Natives, but it could be. So I am not going sepculate on that rumor.

There are still pently of the older stuff around to jog my memories to what I recalled as a gentler time for children.

There are still pently of the older stuff around to jog our memories to what I recall as a gentler time for children and more magicial time. Does anyone else recall those feelings?

I was told that the Rhapsody Resort is putting up two of the families that lost their homes in three bedroom condos for the month of July.
Last Sunday's paper said that 99% of the businesses are running.
I had two major surgeries last week, and have not been out to see what is happening, but things seem to be going on as normal.
The weekend of the storms, we lost power for several hours on Sat and lost TV that day, the next day and later in the week. On MOnday morning, Lake Delton tore a new channel and emptied into the river. Another friend who lives ont he ex-lake said shewatched it rise, thoght her basement would flood, and then suddenly it started to go down and disappeared.
I94 was closed from Mauston to Madison for a couple of days, many roads were closed, it was three or 4 hours to get from Dells to Madison, Reedsburg was flooded. It was a mess last weekend.

        What a bad year.
Sections of MN, Wis, Il are flooded as well as most of Iowa. Higher number of tornadoes than average. East coast has high temps and power problems due (at least in part) to the high temps. MN has not had a 90 yet, and I think only 4 - 5 80 deg days.

On a funny side note-Mike Rowe of Dirty Jobs was in Mn on the first day of spring. He is walking through a few inches of snow for his opening shot. It was snowing, the snow is blowing into his face, and he says where he is and some other stuff, then 'I want to talk to you about global warming' and then bursts out laughing. I thought it funny.

The spring of either 1963, 1964, or 1965 was a record flood time in southeastern Minnesota. I recall the entire Minnesota River bottom near the Black Dog Plant being completely underwater; the Black Dog plant stood as an sandbagged patch of dry land completely surrounded by feet of water. The Lyndale Avenue Bridge across the Minnesota River had not been removed, and the bridge was completely under water. The water level was high enough to submerge parts of Highway 13 on the south side of the River. All of the dams and locks were spilling water as fast as they could.

Closer to home, just off of 76th Street in Richfield, the ball fields at the end of my street were flooded. One of the fields was in a depression about ten feet deep; the depression completely filled with water. (Actually, it had started filling with water during the winter and had frozen over. We were skating on it that winter.)

That submerged area was probably somewhere between one and two acres in size and at the deepest area was about eight feet deep. We had about three or four weeks that spring when we built homemade rafts and floated them on our new lake.

We were quite disappointed when the Richfield parks department set a submersible pump and pumped the lake dry.
“Maybe you shouldn't dress like that.”

“This is a blouse and skirt. I don't know what you're talking about.”

            “You shouldn't wear that body.”

              Refilling starts

The newspaper reads: The road is back. The shoreline is reinforced. The dam is stronger.

The lake will start refilling today or very soon. Looks like the Tommy Bartlett water ski show will be having a place to sky next summer.

Good news for all of the Wis. Dells area.

When we were there in Oct, I took pictures from a different section of the lake. Very sad. Wonderful body of water now just a field. <music begins to swell> But soon new life will be brought back to the area. The tourist will come back, the restaurants will be filled and <stop the music, this is just getting silly>. Okay, enough Monty Python. You see why I didn't do well in school, my mind wanders badly.

Anyway, I hope to see the Dells area in full swing again soon.

News is they have closed the damn and are starting filling now. It sounds as it will take until May to fill. May be that the winter affects the filling, ice over river or something? Not sure.

can't remember if they get the water from Mirror Lake or Dells creek. I thought they opened the dam between the two. Husband isn't here, he knows all the answers.

                          From a part of a newspaper's website
                          (http://www.todaystmj4.com/news/local/35283379.html)

State and local officials plan to close the Mirror Lake and Lake Delton dams perhaps as early as Wednesday to trap carp in standing ponds on Lake Delton's basin. They will apply a toxic chemical to the fish, wiping them out so more desirable species will have a better chance to survive when they're restocked this summer.

Then they will open the Mirror Lake dam, but keep the Lake Delton dam closed, allowing Dell Creek to again fill Lake Delton.

Andy Morton, state Department of Natural Resources lower Wisconsin River basin supervisor, estimates the lake should fill by May.

I like on a man-made lake too. Hate to think that this could happen to us.

                            Good Luck to you.
