POA votes to bring in natural gas

This has been in the disucssion stage for years, with the residents really pushing for it. Propane gas costs about $2.50 a gallon, and there is a charge of about $25 each time they fill the tank. Negotiations continue with Alliant Energy and they think they will make the switch next November. all the propane water heaters, furnaces, fireplaces will have to be converted.

I thought that occurs each time the POA meets . . . that they bring in natural gas. Oh yeah . . . hot air.

Ours will have a very tough decision. Golf play is up, but revenue is down, cuz the course went private a few years ago (in a failed move to increase sales).

The most frequent fix being mentioned is to raise golf fees, probably both annual and per round.

But, isn't golf one of those luxuries that would be one of the first to be let go of by many? Some are already talking about dropping their annual memberships, playing less, a lot less, and just paying per round.

Most of the members have taken big hits in their portfolios, and/or their businesses.

Perhaps it is just time to hunker down, bite the bullet, and try to get by, so that the Law of Unintended Consequences does not get a chance to come into play.

Like our new Prez says, time to trim the fat. Our department has been doing that already. There have been no capital expenditures and even small things do not get replaced. We have requests in for things as simple as a flashlight and $3 worth of bolts and nuts, that will never get filled. So we don't even bother to ask any more; we just bring stuff from home.

Something for minds far greater than mine, above my pay grade and pecking order.

My neighbor just emailed me that the newspaper reports Bluegreen is eliminating 128 sales and marketing jobs in Wisconsin and more will be laid off in Jan. this includes those that do the marketing in town and in outlaying areas as well as the sales office at the resort. The article says that 3 offices will be closed and one will be downsized.


some good news for the residents and the timeshare users as well. For sometime, the homeowners associations have been battling with the township board to get Lake Delton as our fire and rescue instead of Reedsburg. Lake Delton is closer, has more highly trained personnel, while Reedsburg is volunteer and has a longer response time partly because of the disance. I personally witnessed a friend who fell down the back steps of Mulligan's and split open his head lay there unconsious for over a half an hour while we waited for Reedsburg. He was eventually air lifted to Madison and was in critical condition for 4 days.

Anyhow the residents got a member elected to the Township board and got this issue put on an advisory referendum. it passed overwhelmingly so the process is starting to switch to lake Delton.


Another issue that didn't get passed is that the residents arranged for a grant to get street lights put at the intersections of H and coon Bluff and H and Lyndon at no cost and would pay for the $15 a month electric charge out of resident fees. The board refused to allow this, saying everyone would want them then, and we decided to live in the country and that is that.
