  • Concerts on the Slopes

We went to the Platters concert last night and it was great.

Here is the list of the rest of the concerts for this season:
July 13 Rigel (a Celtic rock band)
    Aug 7 Daryle Singletary
Aug 22 Bob Rocks (Madison band) with the CMV Rock Star finalists (weekly Karaoke winners)
    Sept 5 The Coasters

    Children under 12 are free.

How many were at the concert?
Is it a 'bring your blanket or chair' or is there seating?

You bring a blanket or chair.
Hard to guess the total, not a great turnout. I would say about 30 people who live here, 20 employees, and maybe 40 to 50 others.
Loads of people freeloading on the slope by the parking lot but they plan to enclose the stage . It is a really nice stage and we really enjoyed the Platters.

Did you see Darryl Singletary? He showed up at the Nashville Palace when we went to see Ty Herndon and he ended up singing a couple of his hits. shaggy

Daryle singletary is coming August 7. I can't say i really know who he is.

I think I may have underestimated the crowd, but I don't believe there were 150 people there.

I don't think they met expenses. Wht do you think a group like this gts paid?

Duh, I didn't check the date. Darryl is country, had a hitwith "No such thing as too much fun" He is not a country hunk so never really made it "big" but I enjoy his music.

I have no idea how much they pay the acts but I was surprised at the low turnout for the Platters. They are great. shaggy

I think part of the problem is that the CMV resort guests don't show a lot of (what do I want to say here???) 'inter resort activity'. I don't get there often in peak usage time, but I typically only see a handful of people in the indoor pool, Mulligans has more empty seats than full. I don't know if my issue is strickly my time of season usage, or if the guests are staying in the villas or going right from the villas to the Dells. I just have never seen many people out and about. Again, maybe I am there the wrong seasons.

The other thing is that even though I had a reservation in for the 4th - 11th of July (which I was not able to rent out but did get the call from the owner update people), I never heard anything about the concerts except through this thread. Where was the Bluegreen news? Who knows, maybe I missed it, sometimes I skim too fast through emails.

It may take time and advertising to get that concert concept to get into full swing. Maybe they should have started with a few weeks of local bands to get things going, then bring in some headliners.

JUst returned from a party and we were discussing the low turnout. The word does not get out. People staying at the resort do not come to events and people in town very rarely come out to the mountain. If I were staying at some resort and the Platters or another group like that were there for only $15, i would be right there. And it was a most beautiful night. In fact, our golf group, made up mostly of residents, is a huge part of the restaurant business.

They are talking doing a joint event with Mount Olympus for the Beach boys. the cost would be $85,000. no possible way would they make that much money.

I would like to ask a question here. My one neighbor insists that if you stay at what she calls the Mount Olympus hotel you get free tickets to Mt Olympus or to play golf here. I am wondering if it isn't if you stay at the Odyssey, and you do the tour, you get free golf here or tickets to mt. Olympus.
