  • Separating TS from other stuff

I appreciate totally the monumental work that goes into making this site.

so please don't take this the wrong way.

    But here's my comment/suggestion:

Personally, I find it annoying to wade through the new posts and find TS topics intermixed with frivolous stuff I have no interest in. It's like sorting through junk mail at home to find the mail you need and want to see.

I'm also sending many new members here from my culling of Grand Summit owner lists. I have gotten some feedback from them that they are put off by the mix of useful timesharing information with non-timeshare topics. It seems to demean the value of the TS information which is very valuable. Sorry to say, but sometimes there are threads that are just plain stupid. If members want to converse about that stuff, I say go for it...but just not in the same part of the site as the serious topics.

Is there an easy way to split the home page screen ? Can the non-TS threads be put off to the side but still accessible to those who want them?

I feel that if people come to the site for TS information and open up the home page to something frivolous, it's a turn off to the entire site.

If you use the toolbar above and avoid the community forums, you should have mostly timeshare information.

You need to remember that the site is growing and there is very little that I can't do... The question I present is "What is a better way?"

Draw out a model and show me how you would suggest doing it...

The timeshare information is seperate from the other pages... you were likely not a member back when I presented many of the forums like the page that follows. That was back when we had less members and there was less activity....

So anyways, check this page out:

        Opt out menu

I guess what would work also is to have a member menu option to opt out of certain forums. That would simplify the threads I see every time I select " New Posts".

Yes, the format at this link does work well for me. If I wanted to go to Community forums, I could get there, but it's not mixed in with the TS forums.

Well- I haven't come in through the main portal for months. I have my boomark set to the New Posts link. So, I went to the home page, and lo and behold, it's changed - the main thing it features is the long list of recent threads.

I think the Forums Index is a much more user friendly portal.

            So just to be clear.

If you want the newest posts without sighting use
http://www.timeshareforums.com/? or "Home" at the top of the pages.

If you want the lastest posts including exchange sighting use http://www.timeshareforums.com/searc...searchid=47634 or "Todays Posts"

If you want the lists of forums use http://www.timeshareforums.com/index.php or click timeshare forums parent directory at the very top of the pages.

            Hope that helps

Well, there are more options then just those too...

Here is just the community topics (some don't like timeshares )
              http://www.timeshareforums.com/main.php?page=hot_tub

Then timeshare only as suggested before:
              http://www.timeshareforums.com/main....are_discusions

Some people only care about the classifieds system:
              http://www.timeshareforums.com/main.php?page=ken

The main page does not have the Exchange Opportunities:
              http://www.timeshareforums.com/?

But some people only come for the Exchange Opportunities:
              http://www.timeshareforums.com/main...._opportunities

For a vain person there are the MYTOPICS and MYPOSTS pages

As you can see, I have created a website where I can present the topics in some rather unique ways! In the future I will work to integrate these various options as I build the final site but everybody must remember that I consider this site to only be about 50% done! We are just over a year old and there is a lot of work to do still....

If people need more then these options I can take it in consideration but changing these portal pages takes a lot of time that I need to spend on other projects... Every time I add a new page or we add, more, or rename a forum I have to go into each of these portal pages and reprogram them. It just takes too much time when I only have so much time to get the work done that needs to get done... When the site is finished, all of there various types of page will be available in an easier way because now each time I do a code change some of these pages may stop working with no notice... Hence the compromise we have now that most people see and use.

I am curious if people forgot about these old pages? When I had these on the site people didn't seem to use them much so I went to the format we use now but the old pages were always there as the search engines have been using them!

Another strange options would be to ban him/them from the community forums and political forums. That's not the way things were intended, but it should work.

Why would anyone not want to vist the Hot Tub or Ferns Cafe and read the jokes in the Jokes forum.

BTW we could in a month or so kill off the old buy , Rent and sell forums that are locked down currently.

I enjoy visiting all the forums, it adds to the site in my opinion. It makes the site more enjoyable, and interesting.......

As much as we all love timeshares....it's fun to discuss other things also.

If you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.

BTW, I'm still keeping track of how many times you annoy me.

FWIW - I wasn't complaining at all about my settings. I'm perfectly happy entering the site through New Posts.

My comment was related to what the site looks like for a person who comes by for the first time, by entering the address www.timeshareforums.com.

The current list of new posts, excluding sightings, works well for me. I find it easy enough to scroll down through for anything of interest. I simply go straight past sections / topics that don't interest me.
