E-mail notification issue

I have e-mail turned on for post reply notification, using the option "instant e-mail notification", but when I use the fast reply box, I don't get any notifications, and must manually subscribe to each thread using the thread tools drop down menu. Since I invariably don't use the advanced post reply box, and notifications from posts through the fast reply box work on similar software iterations on other forums I belong to, I thought I'd let you know.

Am I being punished for my absence?
