  • Site Slow Today - Possibly Due to Addition of Scrolling Banner

I have never had a problem with load time on this site, but today it is really dragging. Wondering if it might have something to do with the scrolling banner which was added?

When I go to a new page I get the background colors and the start of the scrolling banner but then it is another five or ten seconds before I see anything else on the page.

Site seems to be working just as fast as yesterday for me.

    Anyone else having trouble?

The site was slow for me early this morning but it seems fine since? The code that does the marque is real tiny so I don't think it should cause a server hit.

It may be something with the www in general but I will try to keep an eye on it.

no problems or issues here this morning.

I do occasionally see temporary slowdowns of various sites, including TS4Ms. It only affects certain sites and is temporary. I usually surmise that's due to bottlenecks at some specific locations on the internet. Sites where the path does not trace through the bottleneck load quickly; sites where the path goes through the bottleneck get slowed down.

If the carriers get their way and are allowed to charge premium pricing to content providers for preferred routing, delays such as that will become common for sites that choose not to pay for fast delivery.

It does seem slower on occasion, but it's difficult to know whether it's down to the banner or other issues. If it means anything, the banner movement is pretty jerky on my machine.

It seems normal to me. I have not noticed any slow downs.

It is slow in one of my server but not slow in my other server. I notice that with the slow one, I have trouble when I try to open some threads. At this moment, I will guess it has something to do with try to load the icon. For example, I have a very slow time when I try to hit reply. And when it comes back, I don't see most of the emotion icon, these are the only icon I saw

ANd on top part where you can format the font, I could not see the last 2 icon, and on the bottom where you can add icon on top of my message link, I could not see the 4 icons immediately follow no icon radio button. And Angry icon. I do see all icons in the 2nd row.

However, I can see the green grin icon in Mike's post

Maybe the server that provide these icon was slow or banned by one of my server?

We are getting close to the upper limit for server load as this site has a very heavy database load compared to other websites. At this point there is not much I can do about it and I am reluctant to rebuild the entire site again too soon but there are newer releases of the forum software that I could use when I get the time to upgrade again.

In the next version, I am seriously considering dropping some of the extras that I had added in favor of a lighter server load to make the site faster and to allow us to continue to grow.

There is always more work that could be done then can ever get done

                          Very slow for me

The site has been extremely slow for me for the past three days. I'm assuming it's the site and not my server because every other site I use is still running fine.

While I appreciate the sentiment, if it's the crawl that's the problem I'd be happier if that is taken off.

FWIW, the website is hosted on MY server... by you refering to your server I assume you mean your computer? Unless you do have a Unix server sitting at your desk?

I need to do a full backup and then I will put a request in at the hosting company to have them reboot our server. That will clear eny memory caches and allow things to work better but I hate to do that before I have a very fresh backup!

I really am sure that this is not the problem... The code that does this is very small and simple but I will remove the scrollong part of the code. Let me know if it seems better!
