Looking for ideas - What would you like to have added to the site?

We have had a number of members renewing their memberships and at the moment TS4MS has some money we can spend on a new addition or additions to the site...

Here are two ideas off the top of my head:

1. TS4MS Archive - This would be a seperate copy of the forums data where older posts go. The way this would work is once a thread goes x-months without any new replies the thread would be moved to an "archive" forum. The reason this is brought up here as to do this will require the purchase of an additional forum software license. This really is a requirement now as our site database has really grown to be quite huge!
   
2. Media Server - I have been looking for a solution that would allow us to have a media server with software to allow the hosting and sharing of videos and photos. It may be possible for our curent hosting to handle this or we may need to purchase a seperate hosting account for this purpose.

What other ideas or suggestions do members have?

Please note, because I am doing the coding of the reviews, resorts database these are not included above... I will be working on these as soon as I can but I have been working on the classified script for about 5-months now while it is really turning out nice it has been a real time killer.

If we have excess donation money, Frank and I may look at hiring an outside coder to help me finish the reviews or resorts database but I hate to do that as I can do it if I can only come up with longer days or more of them...

So anyways, what would the members like to have added?

I would definitely like to see enhanced photo server capability. I gave up a while ago since I used by quota so quickly.

In fact, I think I'll renew early so I don't get a reminder email

Server space is what is so hard with photos and videos....

With 2,560 members if each member only uploads 2MB of data that is 5GB of data we are hosting. Move to videos, and the sizes these can be, and you might understand why I dragged my feet on allowing loose controls on these and that is just for storage space...

If we allow video uploads and someone uploads a really great video clip that makes it's rounds on the web we could have hundreds or thousands of people hitting the server to watch that one video casuing the site to slow down or possibly exceeding our bandwidth allowance shutting us down...

I really am looking for a solution as Frank really wants to do the videos (and it would be a great addition) but it has to be done carefully so we don't disrupt the rest of what we have going....

Now, one other addition I have been looking for is a way to do "PodCasts". This way, members could take video of a trip and then broadcast it through the website to people's computer or other devises... I have not really had the time to learn how this technology works but if I can buy a package that will allow it we may well invest in something like this for the site as well.

Ken, is there anything wrong with asking our members to open a FREE photobucket account as TS4M's 'preferred' photo hosting site?
Do you know if photobucket allows click-thru ads here that would generate income for THIS site - it is a very user friendly program.

That is part of the resorts database and I have learned how to do this (NOTE I wrote the code in the classifieds script so you can see the image uploads in that) I just have been real busy with the classifieds script as I have been selling that script and it has been a huge time drain...

I would like a way to jump from the "front page" to the last page of postings in a thread. That is, if Frank has posted about a Woot-Off and I can see from the front page that Glitter has posted to that thread, then there would be a little thing under Frank's post that said 1, 2, 3...Last page and then I could click on Last page and go straight to Glitter's new post.

The way it is now, I have to click on Frank's thread opener, go to the first page of posts in that thread, THEN click on Last page. An extra click!

I think that this would be too major of a job and I just don't want to continue hacking all the pages of the forum script as it makes doing upgrades a real nightmare...

For what you want, just click the "New Posts" and you have that option...

I will try to look for a fix but I can't keep hacking all the pages as I worked on the site full time for over a year and while it works great it is a very complicated system to upgrade...
