Oppinions wanted... Do we bring the points system back?

I have been amazed at how much faster the site has become without the point system running on the site... While it was a great idea and it did not impact our performance when we were smaller, now that we have grown to become what we are I have noticed a HUGE performance boost with that points system turned off!

So, I am considering just abandoning the points system as we had it and write my own Points system were site contributions, threads, posts, etc would be awarded points (like the old system) but these would be calculated by a scheduled task once a week (except for contributions as that will be a new system soon as I don't like the standard system).

This should give us basically the same points type rewards for posting and using the site BUT without the system slowing the site down all the time...

I know some people really like the points... Just the same, we need to do what is best for everyone and I am starting to feel the site is better off without them!

I miss the points.

It was a lot of fun. However, if you come up with another point system that is different that is fine. I like doing the lotto, the bookie stuff when we did it, giving them as gifts to other people as a friendly gesture. It was a tangible way for you to see how you were participating in this website as a poster and in posting new threads.

I did like being able to use them to post classifieds and purchase the "feature" of the ad. That was a nice thing to have in lieu of paying cash to do so.

I LOVE POINTS. I want them back. Don't care about the form. But, I want to bet on more games. We need an NCAA Big Dance pool.

I also loved the points. That is how I posted my classified ads. I loved to be able to bet. I loved to get interest on the points in the bank. I loved to be able to give gifts or ribbons to others. It was fun to watch them grow the more I participated. Bring back the points.

Even though I have not much need for them I like to give them a way in contests. It does make it fun with the lottery and the football bets.

Ken I am not sure but could it have been that V Bookie that caused this. Every thing was fine until after the Superbowl.

I like them for buying classified's feature ads. I would miss that as a genuine perk.

If there was a way to issue points more for quality posting rather than just quantity posting that would be nice, though in reality, hard to measure. Peer review?

I have to say that I really enjoyed them and always bought the lottery tickets...I thought it was fun..if you can bring them back in some form I think it would be great... .

I really didn't care for them. I entered a few lotteries, but never won. (Maybe if I'd won, I'd like them more. )
