      QB,

If I'm reading the info on the upload page correctly, it is possible to load a single image with a maximum size equal to the total allowance. e.g. A member with a 1mb limit could upload a 1mb file.
Members who aren't sure how to resize photos could quite easily use the space very quickly. Just as an example, files from my wifes 3 megapixel camera are about 400kb, from my 13 megapixel they are around 4mb.

Ken just so you know Keith is our Photo moderator in the help forum. Emmy who is on vacation is our Photo shrinker. Keith knows his P's and Q's I have no idea what that means but I seen it used a few times.

I didn't get to test everything and I did have the settings such that a person could upload to their maximum at once... I changed the maximum file size to 1MB now as I think a 1MB file is big enough for us for now.

          Thanks for pointing this out!

            Ken

I've just run a quick test on the upload and display in the photo gallery. I left the original file at just under 1mb and dimensions of 2300x1700 pixels. It took nearly a minute to upload, but once on the server it had been reduced to 800 pixels wide and a file size of 92.5k. It seems that my concerns were unfounded as the work is done at the server end. Very impressive software.
My first attempt to upload failed as the file was just over 1024kb at that time so the change you made to that setting worked.
As stated in the caption to the photo - it isn't me.

I have just posted a very rare, and rather scarey image. One best not viewed by anybody of a nervous disposition.

I rarely get that side of the camera

LOL.. I have very few photos of myself as well...

What is nice is a member can upload a photo on the photo server and now post it in a thread over here to discuss (as this example)... This is a much better way then using the attachments feature in the forum as with the photo server you can post a URL... With the attachements the forum database has to do a lot of work to find the photo and then show it...

I am going to disable uploading of images as attachments in the forum itself after we are comfortable this new platform is stable... Attachments will still work for other documents that are not photos as we need to be able to share PDFs, wordpreosser and text docs, spreadsheets, etc... Just pics now really need to go in the photo server.

Ken this is a great feature. So let me get this right we no longer need a hosting company. We will be hosting our own photos right. That is big.

I do not think that dissabling the image should be done. IMO it is essy to post a small image. Some of the new members may not know how to use all these cool toys. I have a feeling that both Keith and emmy will be busy in the future.

                      With the obvious limits, yes...

To do it a member can go in to the Photo server in the "Member Galleries" area and upload their pics... Then, once the image is in there, RIGHT CLICK to get the image properties and you can use the BB Code IMG tag to post the image here...

Here is the code for one of my pictures:

                      PHP Code:

                      [img]http://www.timeshareforums.com/photopost/data/500/jess_crop1.jpg[/img]
When posted it shows my youngest:

Jessica - August 2005 At Shawnee (Age 19 months)

Matthew (Age 5 at Shawnee Aug 2005)

                      Kristen (Age 8 - July 2005 Soccer)

All three of these photos are on our server here at timeshareforums and now can be shared in the forums. These three pictures add up to be about 170k so even noncontributing members who have a 1MB upload limit would be able to upload about 20 - 30 similar sized images. The photo server is limited to the members that have posted 15 or more messages! Contributing members have quite a bit more space.

In addition, members, guests, and others can browse the pictures in the photo server but this will be handiest to support the forums! When I get time I can change the layout and look of photo server but I have more pressing tasks that need to get done first.

In the future I will set up the generic "TimeshareForums" account in the photo server so that if our members can help us collect images of resorts for the resorts database that they will be able to upload them into their area then the images can be transfered over to the site master username "timeshareforums" so that these images will not take up member storage space. I am not ready to start doing that that yet however so no need for members to start collecting resort photos!

I have to say this is impressive. The image hosting that I was using was free with no limits but my pictures do not look that big. You have to click on the picture to make them bigger and they still do not come out that big. I think you might have seen them in other forums.

Just wondering if a member uses this site to host there picture. Can they post that same picture on lets say another website once it is here and then that picture will be displayed no the other website?
I also feel that this feature should be as you have it , for posting members only. In the future I think we should raise the amount of posts needed to get this feature. After all we don't want people to stop posting once they hit 15 now do we. Guys better keep typing as membership has it's privileges.

At this point I have it set up so that images could be used anywhere. That is subject to change if the photo server gets abused as the serving up of these images does use the bandwidth for the forums. At this point, we have plenty of bandwidth available!

When you are logged in and inside the photo server you should see a "Upload Picture" on the upper right hand side as in the following photo. Click the button and you can upload, name, and add a description.

Just make sure that you put the photo in the correct category (Member or Timeshare Resort).

If you can't it may be something with your group and to be honest I woul dlike to put you back into the regular member group as it takes too much time customizing each code to hande your little group of one. Some day I will try to do a code rework so everybody has the options you have but I can't do it now.

Expect your group to go back to the regular "Posting Group" any second!

OK, see if it works for you now... You are now back in the regular member groups.

                                Ken,

Is there any way for individual members to delete images they have posted? If not, can you please remove my gorilla please.
