  • What a night - Please report problems here

For those that didn't guess, we had a hacker that made a mess out of things on us sometime after 4:00PM Eastern Time. Thanks to Lawren for sending me an e-mail right away as I was able to get the site turned off and changed some access rights and passwords to control just how much damage was done.

Still, it took about six hours to manually look at the site to make sure that that no data was lost from my last backup and to ensure that none of the altered files are still on the website. I weill be working on the site for a few days to put in place some additional security measures but this was a nasty "bot" that did this and they really hit a lot of pages in a very brief period of time.

If you see anything that is not working, please point it out here and I will try to fix things as quickly as I can...

    Header error:

    PHP Code:
Warningunserialize() expects parameter 1 to be string, array given in /includes/vba_cmps_include_bottom.php on line 240

    Warning
unserialize() expects parameter 1 to be string, array given in /includes/vba_cmps_include_bottom.php on line 241
It is not on every page however?

    FIXED!

Thanks. I was overdue for a site redo and thankfully I have been keeping on top of backups or this could have been much worse. The irony is I had to use a backup of the files on the server from last April as the hard drive with the last backup which was done in July is locked in the safety deposit box in the bank.

Next time I need to remember to do two backups so one is available and secure

I am on a few different vbulletin bbs sites.

What exactly happened and how can it be prevented?

Not sure but I don't think this is a vbulletin issue. They were working at an FTP level!

So sorry you have to do this repair work. I really marvel that there are those that take pleasure in messing up a site they have no interest in except to cause problems----sort of like graffiti I guess.

No really, Frank and all the great staff on the site really run the place. I am really just here to oil the machine now and then or in this case sometimes I need to swap out an engine too.

If anybody sees anything strange, I do need to know as Lawren really saved the day on this one by sending me an e-mail so I was able to get on and turn off the site to prevent more damage and to allow me to change the locks.

There will be more updates comming soon.
