  • Medicine & Vitamins while timesharing?

How do you pack your medicine when you go timesharing for a week or two? How do you pack your vitamins?

  • #2
I pack my prescription pills in 2 saparate 1 week individual day containers, One for my AM meds and a separate one for my bedtime meds. I then put both containers in an oblong zipper case and put it in my carry on luggage. I don't take my vitamins or non prescription meds. I figure it won't do much harm to skip them for 1 or 2 weeks.

Never been scrutinized at air port or customs.

It may be a good idea to keep any prescription items in their original containers when traveling internationally.

I throw all my pills in one big Advil bottle. I take lots of supplements and meds and I know what they look like and so far no airport screeners have confiscated anything. I recently left one of my antioxidants home thinking I didn't really need it for a short week at Disney and honestly I was in alot of pain by the end of the week so I do notice the difference when I don't take my supplements. Of course this was a great excuse to sample the wines in all countries for pain management.

I'm sure it's a common practice to mix meds as I don't want to carry 20 little bottles that are labeled. It just takes too much space. My stuff just doesn't fit in one of those 1 week containers all nicely labeled with the days of the week. I can only fit about 3 of my horse pills in one of those so I'd end up taking 4 weeks worth of those containers for a 1 week trip. Not.

For local trips in the car I just throw everything in a bag and take it all.

Law enforcment deal with a certain segment of society that think nothing of putting miscellaneous(stolen or not legally obtained) medication pills in a single unmarked container and as a result many states have laws requiring pills be in respective pharmacy marked containers. To save luggage space, I occassionally do when I travel to the islands, but none of mine is 'controlled', a narcotic or even remotely resembles one. To avoid the remote risk of mistaken(overdose) medicine ingestion, which is a fairly common 'accident', or a hyper vigilant airport screener or motor cop, take the original containers separately. It always helps not to do something that invite a search my the screeners/cops, especially the full body ones, unless you're just into that kind of stuff(ha!) My DW forgets her morning meds regularly before she sprints off to work(I'm retired), but has a small plastic container with 1-2 days worth as a backup. Not having her psychotic meds on Black Friday at a retail job is not good for quality customer service(ha)!

What I have been doing in using the original pill bottles, etc. for the prescription medicine. And for the vitamins and supplements, putting a days worth in one of the small snack zip lock bags. The original pill bottles do take up a lot of space, I use an old shaving bag and put them in it.

I use 2 inch by 3 inch ziplock bags for each morning and evening serving. Put them all in a sandwich size baggie. Always take them in carry-on. Never had a problem. For our annual snowbird trip I just take them in the original bottles.

For the medications I take daily I use one of the those "day by day" pill things. I take it in a carry on. Vitamins I either put in the day by day as well if I'm traveling alone, or if both dh and I are traveling we'll put them in a baggie.
