I was thinking of buying a safe at our local Costco......and then...I watched this video.

My friend had a little closet-type safe in her closet, full of heirloom jewelry. Thieves came in and stole the whole safe, all 300 pounds of it.

Do you use those hotel and timeshare safes?

Gone in 60 Seconds...Hotel Safe cracked with a paperclip

300 pounds is quite a load. The ones I was looking at are about 500 pounds and you are supposed to bolt them to the floor. The bolts actually go through the bottom inside the safe so it makes it real tough to take the whole safe....but if they really want it they will get it.

The whole crack depends on tipping the safe over and having sufficient clear space around the safe to use the crowbar and prybar.

If the safe stays upright they can't get the leverage to pry the door. Simiarly, if they don't have about five fee of clear space to work the prybar, they don't have leverage.

So if you securely bolt the safe to the floor and mount it in a confined location the installation will be far more secure.

Any safe can be broken into by a determined burglar, but they are going to need to bring some specialized equipment to do so. If the burglar brings a plasma torch on the job, it's because the burglar already knows the target is there, and in that case there isn't any safe that can't be compromised.

“This is a blouse and skirt. I don't know what you're talking about.”

          “You shouldn't wear that body.”
