  • Terrible Costumer service from Ford Lincoln

Last year I bought the new Lincoln MKS, I love this car more than any car I ever had.
Any way the car has been stalling on me and I got stuck in a bad spot but was able to get it back home. I called Lincoln and they sent a car to Tow it yesterday. They were suppose to come in an hour Any way the way it works is that while Ford sets up the Tow, I am suppose to call the dealer to get them to take it in, ford said they had an approval from there operator but I double checked to be sure and good thing I did that. The Ford/Lincoln Dealer said they do not have the tech to look at it until Monday so even though it was Tuesday they could not help, both techs were in School, Nothing like planing on keeping one at the shop EH. How can a dealer not have a tech for the full week is beyond me. Any way the Tow still has not come yet so we found another dealer that can take in the Car the next day.
So we made an Appointment to have the car towed between 11 and 12 noon. I called the tow company and told them I was free from 10 am on. Noon came and went. I needed to get the car in by 1 pm so they could order the parts by 3 pm. They finally show up at 1:30 pm to pick up the car so I now know that it will not make it there in time to order the parts. I called the dealer and he did me a favor he said the sec it gets here he would have it looked at right away which he did with about 10 minutes to spare. But when he looked at it that is when the real problem started. I thought it was the thermostat because one hose was hot going out and the other hose was cold going in. The problem was a Rodent ate the wiring harness leading to the therostate and that was not covered he said. So I call Ford to see what they can do for me, Nada not any help at all, They said it is not covered I said how can you make a car that costs what it does and leave the wires so an animal can chew threw them like it did. They again said Sorry so I then said is this how you take care of a loyal costumer who has bought 4 Lincoln's, 3 ford Explores and a Ford Taurus along with a Mazda which they owned then. I told them this would be the last Ford car I ever buy again, It would be more feasible if you paid the $600 bill then have me go away pissed. Got no where with there Supervisor. I hate to say this but I am now might be driving my last Lincoln, Not sure I am going to live up to it but right now I can not believe that tis is how Ford treated a loyal customer.

Hi Frank, I know you are frustrated, but ... put yourself in their position ... why should they be paying any money for rodents damaging the cables?

The company has an option to do something as a goodwill gesture, and I guess they opted not to. Respect their choice and move on ...

My Toyota had a similar problem and we also had to replace the cables...

I've never been a Ford fan. I love Honda and wish I had bought another one instead of my Mini. I'm sorry you are having so much trouble. That really sucks , esp with such an expensive car. Shaggy

If they know rodents can get to the cables and chew them\ Should they not be doing something about it like using a chew proof harness? If they would have met me half way and paid $300 of the $600 bill, I would have settled for that but to say sorry to a Loyal customer was and is poor service on there part.

My DD works at the local Toyota and on occasion the check engine light will come on when the gas cap is not tightened to prevent the air leak, which triggered the light sensor. She says they laugh when they can charge someone $50 for simply tightening the cap. I doubt if they told the customer how they ripped them off, but if customer found out, I hope they take their business elsewhere. Dealerships are notorious for being ripoffs! Ask around and you'll probably find a small shop nearby at comparable rates and better ethics. I don't know if you can make a vehicle completely rodent proof. I had a pest control guy tell me that rats chew on stuff like wires to hone their teeth to a manageable length because their teeth are continually growing. This was after I saw rat chewed wires of a car stereo in a warehouse. $600+ to repair a couple of wires seem quite inflated. Check around for another garage to take care of your baby!

This happened to us. The only reason I can laugh is because it happened to a "work" truck and was fully covered by the employer...but after it happened-I thought OH NO...what about the personal cars we have parked outside the garage? It suddenly wasn't so funny-but so far so good. Incidently, the work truck was a Ford....rodents preference?

I thought about taking it out and looked into it. Once they got your car your done, They are going to Charge me $100 to take the car out since they worked on it and diagnosed it. It will cost me at least another $150 to get it towed. So I will end up spending $250 and still have a non working car. If a car repair shop charges me $300 is it worth it to save $50 and have it on record that the car was not fixed by a dealer?

BTW I think this happened 2 weeks ago when I went to the Pocconos. The car started acting funny after we came home.

                    That is TERRIBLE. Honestly.

The reason they should be fixing it is that it doesn't cost THEM $600 to do the repair--it probably costs them (maybe) $300 to do the repair, and they've already screwed around with the towing and the schedule. This for a customer who has probably spent hundreds of thousands of dollars with them over the years.

Not to mention, it might not even BE a rodent chewing through the wires. They could be telling Frank a story to get him off their back.

I'd ask the mechanic to show me the place in the harness that's been chewed (to confirm that they're not just blowing smoke up your you-know-where). Then I'd get out my soldering iron and fix it myself. I can't imagine it's more than 1 or 2 wires. Although I'm sure they'll replace and not repair the harness, charging $600 for that type of service is absurd!

                        Frank,

If it makes you feel any better, we've had a similar thing happen, only in our case I think it was squirrels. We, and some of our neighbors, leave a car at our condo. One time whan we came back, we had damage. Others also. Not too much you can do, as they are sneaky little devils.

It doesn't matter who fixes or services your car. Your warranty will still be valid. You have no obligation to take it to a dealer. I don't know about where you live bit we have tons of good independent repair shops for all makes and models of vehicle. Find a good independent that specializes in your vehicle. You will get better service at a much cheaper price. Dealers use service advisers that get a cut of whatever they can rip you off for,

The reason it costs so much is the labor to get to the harness. I was told they have to remove both the top and bottom manifolds. I am going to ask for the harness.
Just so I have it in my posts in case a search engine finds this.

The Dealership that did not have the techs is Major Ford Lincoln Mercury

The Dealership that is taking me for a ride is Queens Blvd Lincoln Mercury.

Good idea to ask for the harness. I try to always ask for any parts a repair facility claims to have replaced. Of course, it doesn't mean thay can't just go pull someone elses bad part out of the trash bin and hand it to you, but that's pretty unlikely in this case.
