Minnesota's Not so bad after all!

It may be sunny and 18 here in Minnesota, but at least we're not expecting a "Snowicane!" Looking at sunny and 30s into next week. Maybe the snow will be gone when I get back from Hawaii in mid March.

          Come on down.

Sorry but I only have a 1 bedroom with a couch bed.

It's a nice couch bed though. Like the ones they have at Disney but you'd have to sleep with my 2 cats and my 2 parakeets. Only thing is that next week I've got family coming down to occupy the couch after we get back from Disney. So you'll have to wait 2 weeks to come down. Hopefully by then the snowicane will have passed.

How do you guys handle the power going out when it's so cold? Can't you freeze to death? That would be scary. Do you have generators? I haven't lived in snowville since the 60's so I was a kid when we lived in NY.

We lost power for over 3 days a few years ago. We use a wood stove for heat so we weren't cold. Biggest problem for us is no water. We have a well so no power means no water!

Yikes That's enough reason to move South. At least when we don't have power we just sweat to death, not freeze to death. We can always jump in the pool and cool off even if the water is green.

I think I know why my Mom refuses to go back to New York, not even to visit. She says that 30 something years was enough for her for a lifetime.

I didn 't know "people" could have those kind of sofa beds - they are VERY comfortable....the cats I can take but not the birds.

Do u do the yearly FL residence pass to Disney?

I wish it would not snow!

I got the couch a few years ago at Burdines aka Macy's. It's an American Leather brand. They probably don't make the bed part but it works just like the DVC beds and it has no bar in the middle to kill your back. I wanted it comfortble but not too comfortable (if you know what I mean).

As far as the yearly pass, I used to get it every year for many years but I got what they call the 4 season salute pass. It's good for most days but spring break, christmas, new years and some holidays which didn't really matter since I never go when everyone else goes anyway. I've also purchased the Epcot after 4pm pass which is good for a year for $125.

Now I just buy either the 4 day FL play pass which is 4 days for $99 or I get non-expiry tickets and budget for several years with a 10 day ticket. When I had the yearly passes I always felt I HAD to go to get my moneys worth. I guess that's how they get you hooked on Disney but since buying my DVC, I actually visit The World more often but don't go in the parks as much anymore except a few days a year to see what's new and of course do my yearly Food & Wine visit for my birthday.

The storm barely begun and I already lost electricity for a couple of hours. It's back on now, so I have my fingers crossed.

It's just raining here right now. Unfortunately in our school district they are starting the CMTs today (Connecticut standardized testing) so my 6th grader has to go to school...otherwise I would consider having her stay home. I guess the older kids might as well go too. I haven't decided if I'm going to drive to work today or work from home. I do hope we don't lose power because, like Pat, we have a well and so would also have no water. We do have a wood stove but haven't had a lot of success with it as far as using it for a main heating source.

The snow has started here--it was nothing, then it went from drizzling to big fat white flakes in about one minute from about 6:50 to 6:51.

Our power rarely goes out. I only remember it going out once, and then it was at night, in a rainstorm, not a snowstorm. It came back on during the night. On, and there was the big blackout in what--about 2003? But that wasn't caused by weather at all.

You are soooo lucky. I loose power all the time. I don't doubt for a minute that we will loose power with the wind predicted in this storm. the only question is how long it will take to get it back. Sigh!

I've actually wondered about that--why LI loses power so often. The weather is more severe out there, but it also seems like the grid is more fragile, too. Or what? What does it?

It's just snowing here--no wind. I have ten minutes to decide if I should drag youngest DD to school....
