  • Anything of Interest on Your Commute ?

Due to traffic problems on 128/95, I had to take the back roads to circumvent a major traffic problem. It was such a pleasant and interesting way to go to the PROC (the People's Republic of Cambridge).

Seen on my detour (all within 3-4 miles from my house).

    1. Paul Revere's Capture Site and Dawe's Ride

    2. Sign pointing to the Lexington Green

    3. Sign stating "March of the Patriots, Battle Road, April 19, 1775"

    4. Sign pointing to the Old North Bridge ("The Shot Heard 'Round the World).

    5. Walden Pond and Thoreau's Hut

,,,,,and I thought, "how cool is this ?!"

Many years ago while driving to work on Patriot's Day (usually on/about April 19th), I had to wait until the Sudbury, Ma. Militia Sudbury Militia - Colonial Reenactors & Historical Speakers marched past on their way to the Concord re-enactment.

So, what do you see on your way ?

The funeral home where John Gotti was laid out and the cemetery he is laid out in.

Of coarse most important the empty sky where the trade center once was.

The Hudson River, three ferries, a light rail. The New Jersey Palisades. And the site where Aaron Burr shot Alexander Hamilton.

At first I was just going to say Route 7 in Norwalk, CT.

But then I realized that I pass this every day:

Nothing as historical...Google and Yahoo campuses, and NASA's Moffett Field, where Air Force One lands during Presidential visits to the Bay Area...

              Hmmmmmmmm,

Shinnecock Golf Club - home of several US Opens.
I pass over the Shinnecock Canal and Locks - that connects Peconic Bay to Shinnecock Bay and out to the Atlantic Ocean via the Shinnecock Inlet - which was created during the great hurricane of 1938.

              Pine barrens ..... ???
That's about it....a bit boring driving the sunrise highway.

When I take the MassPike in, I see Fenway Park, the Charles River, some of Harvard U. and a sea of red lights in front of me (during rush hour).

Sometimes I see the Acela pulling into South Station.

I go under the "Pru" on the Pike. It is also where my high school graduation was held.

                  Let's see , if I was still driving to work I'd pass the junk yard, the salvage outlet and a boring I-40. If I detoured I'd get to see the charming Old Salem ;

Lisa, is this the hanger where they keep AF1?
It is a strange looking structure.

I don't think so...I am not sure if the hanger is still in use but it's a very recognizable landmark in the area.

The Orlando commute is no fun...

Nothing very exciting in this town, unless you get worked up over unhappy Westgate owners standing outside the resort with signs!

It was originally build for dirigibles (blimps).

P.S. My commute is less than 2 miles, and consists of driving by new housing developments and a man-made pond. Not very exciting...

This is at the Moffett Field Naval Air Station in Mountain View, CA. linkIt was used for servicing airplanes. It is huge! Planes were brought in and stored in multiple levels for repairs. I was told that, at times, it would rain inside the hangar due to humidity and pressure differences between the hangar and the air outside! Check out this picture too
