  • What were we thinking??

While in Florida at the beginning of the month, we drove down to visit friends who own a mobile home park model in a very nice park. We wound up buying one for ourselves! DH played and enjoyed the on-site private golf club, and I was impressed with the social programme. There are lots of people our age and we have already met many Canadians there. This will be quite an adventure for us!

It sounds wonderful. Some of the mobile homes are beautiful and in very nice parks with lots of amenities. We saw one in Oregon where friends of ours moved to.

Are you moving out of State to a warmer climate?

Are u and your husband retired?
Will u be able to spend 3-5 months there?

If so, sounds like a great thing to do as I am sure those type of ownerships are extremely reasonable right now and to get away from Canadian winters (in a financially sound country) will be great.

        Congratulations on your purchase.

Where did you buy? 8 years ago we bought a condo in FL and have been very happy with our purchase. We spend about 1/2 our time here.

We bought in a nice park just outside of Sebring, called Crystal Lake Club. We won't spend the entire winter there, as we couldn't stand to be away from our grandbaby for that length of time. We are both retired, so our schedule is flexible. We'll probably do 3 weeks in the late fall and 6 weeks or so in the winter. We will have the kids join us for a few weeks.

We have lots of ideas about updating,as the furniture and decor are pretty outdated, but everything seems usable for the timebeing. We may even opt to rent out one of the winter months when renos are finished.

Enjoy. We sort of do the same thing. Come down after Christmas until sometime in April. Back in Summer with a grandkid (or 2) for a couple of months, then usually come for a month in October. We love Fl in October, except 2009 which was unusually hot.

              ps. We are near Clearwater.

Since u r both retired and have great flexibility, this will work well for you...our neighbor started out doing 10 weeks after Christamas and over the years they have extended it longer and longer - they now go early November to early May. It is just great to have that option to go when u like.

We are heading back down in early April to see what we really are getting, as we only saw it once! We will make lists of what we want to do when we go back down in the fall. I know we want to remove the old carpets and put down tile or laminate, and will repaint. We are getting excited about it.
