  • Any 4-Wheel Drive Experts?

The Tahoe/Yukon forum is down right now, so I'm trying here.

    DW drives a GMC Yukon.

I drove us to and from a St. Pats Party the other night, maybe 15 miles. On the way home something in the front end was moaning when we were turning. By the time we got home, the front wheels were all but locked up.

Today was my day to mess around with it. Same thing when I turned from the driveway into the road.

Then I noticed it was in 4-wheel drive. I had not engaged it the other night, so, of course, no telling how long it had been. It seems to be doing OK in 2-wheel drive.

    Any guesses on the scenario?

If you were in 4 wheel and driving on dry pavement, you didn't do your vehicle and good (but you probably knew that). Just driving straight, is less of an issue. Turning in 4WD on dry pavement is where you really may have done some damage. It's looking for that "slippage" that comes with wet/slippery roads. When it's not there, you're locking some things up. I don't know all the technical terms but that's where the key issue is.

Yeah, I was pretty sure the thingy was locking.

Just wondering what's up from here.
