Why don't you try adding some fiber to your diet. Metamucil has an orange flavored gelatiny like stuff that you can add to juice.

Also have oatmeal instead of eggs for breakfast. Fish oils and flaxseed oil also great. You can put flaxseed or the oil in your oatmeal in the morning.

Red Yeast Rice extract is also helpful for cholesterol. (Buy at Costco).

You have to do multiple things not just eat chicken and run although that's a great start. I know Marathon runners who suffer with cholesterol problems.

I don't run and I don't have cholesterol problems either, but I'm 45 so hopefully that won't be one of my issues. I do take antioxidants daily.
That also helps with blood chemistry. I like OPC3. PM me if you want more details.
I know you are being facetious, but I don't take one person's experience and generalize it to a population. Rather, I see the data across the population and assign that expected outcome (in percentage terms) to the individual. I don't think there is anything a person can do for 3 hours per week that can do them more good than 1 hour of exercise at 65-75% of their max heart rate, 3 times per week. If you can't run, then swim or cycle or row.

There has been a lot of good information here, and the nice thing for me is that I know I am doing most of it to some degree.

I don't run, but do walk, and even gardening (compost turning, turning over soil, digging out new potatoes, etc) is a lot of work. I watch my food quantity and the food is lean like chicken (except when I smoke the meats, but the fat drips out of that over 4-12 hours of cooking). I don't eat a lot of hamburgers, or pizza. I have been on meds for 6 years to keep cholesterol under control. Weight should be reduced, but I am far from being obese.

My family genetics is not great, and as I get older, they catch up with me. I continue to work for a longer life. Some things are just tougher to counter act than others. For those, I will just need to do a little more.

So thank you for your opinions and ideas. And again, I am doing most of them, but need to do more. I guess I need something better to watch when I use the eliptical that will make me want to do it more often.

I know you don't always have the greatest weather for it, but if you can get out and bicycle it's great exercise. I prefer cycling to running because it's low impact (I have bad knees), and one can cover a lot more ground (see more things) on a bike. If you don't have a bike, I'd highly recommend one of the hybrid styles. Comfortable riding position, but still easy rolling.

Try swimming. It can be a great aerobic exercise and doesn't put as much stress on your knees as running.
