I used to be a sports junkie. I watched NCAA men's religiously. I would have great discussions with other hoops fan about specific plays in specific games that happened years in the past amazing non-sports fans that anyone would remember such minute detail. And, I, too, got too time constrained. My favorite post season tournament remains March Madness.
I was an avid Dodger, Lakers, Angels, Rams, Trojan (football) and UCLA (basketball, I hate to admit it but my cousin went there when I was a kid) and tennis fan. If I wasn't eating, sleeping, working or going to class, I was watching or playing sports.
I guess I don't watch college basketball anymore because I don't have a team to root for. I don't like simply watching sports without something at stake. In the case of sports, it's emotional tie in.
For NBA basketball, I'd have to agree that the athletes don't give it 100% for the whole season. I don't think it's possible, actually. If you do, you will burn yourself out before the playoffs.
That said, I truly appreciate the pro game of basketball and how it's played. The plays they execute and the extraordinary athleticism displayed really amazes me to this day.
The college game has more energy, but zone defense makes it actually quite boring. Now, if more teams played Princeton type ball, I'd probably change my mind.
The athleticism and skill of NBA athletes is indeed unparalleled. That's the part that still makes it at all fun to watch.
