  • Can't get mover to deliver my furniture!

I am at my wits end. Had my things picked up in PA on 9/15 and they were supposed to be delivered on 9/23. On 9/23 the driver told me he can't get there until Sunday. I was leaving on Saturday for a 10 day trip so we arrange for delivery on 10/6. Driver texted me on 10/4 to call the office and confirm. I call the office and no one calls me back. Call again on 10/5 then get runaround from driver that he never heard from office so he can't get there until Friday or Saturday. Keep calling Thursday, Friday and today. Always get the same story that supervisor will call me back. NO ONE ever calls me back. Today I called the PA State Police and first they told me that it was a civil matter but when I said I had already paid, the Trooper called the company. They lied to him and said they had tried to deliver my furniture but I wasn't home!!! Then they said that I should call when I was ready and they would deliver it within 5 days. WTF!!

Stupidly I paid them upfront so I can't hold that over their head. I know there are websites where I can post about the company, etc. Does someone know of good place to do that? I also plan to complain to US DOT. Probably won't do me any good, but I'll feel better.

    Any advice?

Hey BF, can you send some of the "boys" over with an offer they can't refuse?

Ay yi yi! Have they asked you for more money? Or do you think that they've just lost your stuff?

I had similar problems with my move to AZ. They said it would take 4 days so we drove like maniacs across the country to be there for delivery and it took 3 weeks and they eventually told us we should stop calling them, it would get there when it got there.

They haven't asked for more money and I really don't think they lost it. My opinion is that the drivers/movers drive/work 24 hrs a day all over the country. They use Uhaul type trucks. They are probably more interested in delivering to those who owe them money.

              No, it wasn't them.

Yes, my stuff showed up after 3 weeks of waiting, almost 4 weeks total. We spent a week in a timeshare and two weeks sleeping on a leaky air mattress. We went to a second hand store and bought a couple of folding chairs and a plastic table and Walmart for some cheap silverware and plates. It was a miserable 3 weeks.

What a worry. I hope that your furniture will be delivered soon.

that's worrisome at best. Good luck with this...would it help (though it might hurt you), to sweeten the pot a little?

Do you mean offer them more money? Absolutely not. I was quoted $900, when they picked it up they tried to charge me $1995 which I refused. Finally settled on $1100 so I was overcharged to begin with.

Pat, I do hope this gets worked out soon. Moving is hard enough.

How did you pay? If by check, can you stop it? If by credit card, call the company...

Maybe a complaint filed with BBB would get the ball rolling?

Paid by check and it was cashed the next day. I did file a complaint on Moving: How to avoid Moving Company Scams and they forward it to DOT.

Movers are a horror story and not just the little guys. Call the attorney general and look for a TV consumer advocate to tell your story. I can't believe you paid an upfront fee. I could tell you lots of horror stories about moving companies.

YOU can't believe I paid an upfront fee? I can't believe I did either. I spent 23 yrs as a fraud investigator so you'd think I'd know a scam when I saw one. I didn't go with my gut because I was stressed and exhausted. No excuse and I feel really stupid. :
