  • Googlemap Street View

I have often commented on how glazed and amazed I am at Googlemap Street View, or the view of Orange Lake as if you were flying along just above the trees.

How in the heck do they do that?

Have they actually stood out in front of beaucoup millions of houses and then panned around 360 degrees?

& how did they fly along at treetop level?

    Like this:

    26.438918,-81.792891 - Google Maps

If someone happens to recognize this . . . what is really creepy is that I did not use a name or a street address to find it!!!

In this view I can see a dead butterfly bush out back:

    http://maps.google.com/maps?q=26.438...43,0.0012&z=20

Here I navigated around the corner:

    http://maps.google.com/maps?q=26.438...=0,0.0012&z=20

    How creepy is that?

It is truly amazing. Nothing is sacred. Have you ever spotted Aircraft in Flight from Google Earth?

As far as Google maps. I have seen on some documentary a car equipped with cameras on the roof. Google pays some vendor to drive these cars decked out with cameras and it tracks by GPS all over the world.

      Amazing...

Talk about coincidence---my wife just pulled up our house on it before I logged in here. It was from this summer and we weren't home, because one boat and the truck were gone and it was this year's garden.

          I noticed that, too.

Hey, Jim, did you get permission from the owner of that house to print it?
I've been there too, so know who it belongs to. But no address??? Did you just use their name?
I'll have to go look at my house now....

Like I said, I did not use either a name or an address. I simply located it via googlemap aerial search and then selected Street View.

I did, however, select that house because some here would recognize it, just to show how creepy and invasive it all is.

Now that I think about, don't you think whatever sort of spy camera they employ picks up some things it shouldn't every now and then?

I always thought someone drove around with a camera attahced to their car to get these shots....

                Amazing how well technology works

It is amazing to realize what technology can do. I'm sure it can do much more than we think.

My cousin flew recon missions in the Air Force. He once told me that if I stood outside my house and held up my watch, the plane's camera had the ability to see the numbers on the watch. This was the early 1970's.

With today's satellite technology, who knows what's possible.

Everyone knows where the OF's are. They're hiding outside Jim's house!

For those that think he's still around...

I spoke with a pilot of a U2 (yes, they're still in service) during the EAA Oshkosh Air venture, and asked him about today's camera technology. His answers were interesting, to say the least. Let's put it this way - if I can see large rocks and my well head pump in my backyard using Google Earth that is open to the general public, what do you suppose our military has?
