Just received an email from my friend(a timeshare owner) who is an RN here in the US. She is asking her friends not to send her a Christmas gift this year but rather donate a needed item to an orpan in Haiti. Her friend is a doctor who is there helping at the orphange. Here is part of her email
"have a special request this Christmas season. For those who exchange gifts with me, I request that you buy only one item that can be used to send to Haiti. I have a co-worker who is helping to rebuild an orphanage and a new medical center there. They are in need of school, medical and building supplies. the list of needs can be found if you Google: Reach Haiti medical Center .com. My co-worker's name is Rich Ruppenstein, PA. He is there now and will return in January. This site also gives the name of his church that supplies tax receipt if you need one. For those who do not exchange gifts with but send cards please send a card instead to Rich with a prayer for the continue success with his mission. Prayers are a powerful thing. If this holiday season finds you stretching every penny and can not donate please remember Rich and his family in your prayers. For those who are able to, I ask that while you shop for your family members and friends you pick up just one item for Rich to bring back with him in January. Even simple things like toothbrushes, deodorant, pencils, socks etc, the list is long and the needs many but these are items we use every day without blinking an eye. Let's help make this holiday season a truly blessed one. Love and Prayers"

I NEVER get involved with anything like this especially overseas. But my friend never asks for anything. I thought this was a wonderful idea that I would share with all of you. I emailed her back telling her I have new socks, new toothbrushes etc.. just sitting at home. I would love to donate these to her. I am going to place a box here at work for the coworkers to donate too!!! It is nice to know someone close to me is doing this so I know my items are going where needed.
If anyone knows of a group or church doing the same thing here in the US please let me know. I looked a few times but they wanted money not items. I prefer sending items that I have purchased but do not use or can purchase while shopping to send.
