I love my Kindle. I only use it for reading, the battery life can't be beat and I love to read outside. It's lighter/smaller than the iPad and a lot less expensive. I use my Macbook Air for internet, etc... so don't need my reader to do other things. I am able to download books directly to the Kindle from most places - there is another thread here somewhere about the difference b/t wifi and 3g(4g?) models.

The article you posted gives a great summary - looks to me like Kindle still wins for value if you only want a reader.

Today I was in Sams. They had the large iPad on display and I messed with it a bit.
Way to heavy to hold for reading and pricey. So that one is out.

Thank you, everyone for your input.

I've got a Nook and think it's great. I travel a lot for business and pleasure. I've used it to read well over 50 books since last Xmas.
I've used it on the beach and by the pool in Cabo and Cancun, on the airplane extensively, in hotel rooms, on my boat on the lake, inside and outside. It reads just like a book...frankly, the more light the better. That's the big negative for the Ipad and other back-lit devices. When the light is poor, I love the ability to increase the font size on the fly...of course, all readers support this - just noting that I love the feature.

Mine has both the wifi and ATT wireless. I've found both to work easily to browse books and download from the Barnes and Noble website. Unless you want to read magazines, etc., I fail to see the advantage of the color version. I can count the number of color books I've read since my kids grew up on zero fingers. My local daily paper can be downloaded daily on the Nook...I've tried it, but frankly hate it...the newspaper needs to be handled, folded and mutilated to be fully comprehended...IMHO

I've observed and briefly tried my business partner's Kindle....seemed just fine to me - read well, easy-to-use... not sure I saw a compelling difference between the two. But, I didn't get the Kindle as a gift last Xmas, I got the Nook. So, I use the Nook - go figure. Frankly, I don't think you can go wrong with either one.

I like the Ipad as a more fully functioned device, but I think it falls short as an ereader.

Nook software is also available for free on PC/Mac/iPhone/Blackberry and likely other mobile devices as was noted earlier about the Kindle software. In fact, the newest update to the Nook software supports page number syncing...I've not tried it...can't imagine reading a book on my cell phone...but, this allows you to read to a point on your Nook, then pick up your cell phone and begin reading where you left off...then do the same on your PC and back to your Nook. They leverage the wireless connection to maintain synchronization. Clearly a feature beyond my personal needs.

        Safe travels.
