Continental messed up our flight change - Thoughts on whether we will get home?

Crowded with people some of whom have been there two days according to news reports.
Over 5,000 flights were canceled in the 2 days at JFK LGA and Newark.

You'd probably still be in Florida - ? Almost home...

We got home a couple of hours ago. Whew...what a trip!

Rental car bill very steep, and Continental has yet to credit us for the canceled flight. (However, it won't be much of a credit, as they insist that the outbound flight was worth much more than the return flight!) But...we are home and very glad!

Roads were free of snow/ice, but very crowded and there were several accidents along the "home stretch" from New Jersey up to CT.

We met many people en route who were doing the same thing we were...they had been stuck in the South and had decided to just drive home. Some of them had cars stuffed with young kids, and while we had three of our own to manage, they kept themselves well entertained with computers/ipods/books, etc...so different than when they were young!

My twelve year old had just finished a book called "The Hunger Games" and lent it to me for the ride. I finished that and the other two books in the trilogy (bought on the Kindle) on the way home. I highly recommend them!

Thanks, all, for making the trip with me in spirit. It was sure nice to know that people were thinking of us and offering advice...very comforting!

Continental

We just had a horrific flight/layover on Continental from Houston. We were deayed 8 hours on the 28th due to the storm. Although our Destination Houston/Nashville was good weatherwise, check and see where your flight is coming from. We first got bumped off of our 3:45 flight, then the next flight was due in at 5:30 p.m. Not bad we thought but every hour they were announcing no plane as it was coming from Newark. Finally when the plane arrived after 10:00 p.m. they could not find the flight attendants. We found out it was due to Union issue when my husband demanded for an explanation. After 1 - 1 1/2 hours, they finally had a flight attendant. Good luck on your drive!
