  • Continental messed up our flight change - Thoughts on whether we will get home?

Yesterday I called Continental (one hour hold time...could not change online) to change our flight which was due to arrive in Newark, NJ tonight (from Orlando) but will likely be cancelled because of the storm. I got a nice man who spent a half hour on the phone with me checking various flights and said that he booked me for Tuesday morning.

Today I went online to check the itinerary and discovered that he had made a mistake (I had checked yesterday but was focused on the new time rather than the day and didn't notice his mistake), and that we are now on a flight leaving Orlando tomorrow morning! After another very long hold, I was told that they were sorry for the mistake, but there is nothing they can do and that all flights are booked through Wednesday.

I guess we have no choice but to go to the airport tomorrow and wait it out, but I am nervous about being stuck in the airport all day tomorrow. Anyone think the storm will pass by tomorrow afternoon, enough so that a flight due to arrive in the early afternoon will be allowed to fly?

Thanks for any input! This whole thing has been very stressful, although made easier by a wonderful Forums member who was able to find us a place to stay for tonight and tomorrow night.

    Sharon

Thanks Frank. We do have a place to stay until Wednesday, but can't get a flight out later than tomorrow...unless we want to stay until the 30th which we just can't do.

Interestingly, there are plenty of American flights available going to JFK, but maybe that is because we are Gold and can see them. Maybe if we had status at Continental, more flights would suddenly have seats on them.

If they have a connecting flight they should take off and land there. But that is as far as they are going, It is bad out there now and it just started about 30 min ago

No flights out for many days so we have arranged to drive our rental car home. Anyone who knows of any decent places to eat or stay along the 95 corrider from Florida through to Connecticut, please let me know!

There is a nice Mariott courtyard right on the Hilton head exit, That is about your half way point. I would not leave today because you need to time it so the streets are drivable which may not be for about 3 days

Hilton Head isn't even close to the halfway point, it's only 5 hrs from Orlando!

Not a place I think I'd want to be stuck in.
I hope she gets out soon.
Maybe she could try a connecting flight thru the states and get stuck in Miami.

Since we do the 95 route several times a year, I'll try to help on motels. I look for new ones, not too much on brands. There are several. On way down we stayed at Lumberton NC at a Comfort Inn (not Comfort Suites which is next exit). It is faily new. Just about 20 miles from SC border. Several nice ones at Florence exit. (Believe it is I-20 westbound, but motels are eastbound and many.

If you need someone to check internet or AAA book, I'd be glad to do it.

ps. Was always going to start a thread about this. Maybe should do it.

You could also pick up an EXIT guide. They've got the phone numbers and coupons of alot of motels along the interstates. Usually you can pick them up at Denny's or at the rest stops.
The coupons say walk in rates only but I find if you call they'll give you the rate on the phone some times.

There is no way it is 5 hours from Orlando. It takes 3 hours to get to Jacksonville, Then you have GA and then part of SC. It takes about 14 hours to get from NY to HH and 23 to get from NY to Orlando
