PLEASE Help if you can! We need someone arriving in the Cancun area soon from USA or Canada that can bring a small part.

Our 2007 Ford Escape Hybrid thinks it was in an accident (but probably because a passenger bumped the front psgr footwell). The car starts but a red triangle (emergency shutdown signal) comes on then it stops.

There is a fuel pump shutdown switch near the front passenger footwell.
Problem began Sunday night. On Monday two mechanics thought it was resolved and we went on high speed test drive without a problem. Problem happened again Tues & Wed. We towed it to Ford.

They don´t sell Hybrids in Mexico and this dealership´s service departments said they have only worked on 2 Ford Escapes in 3 years. They KNOW if they need a part it will take a LONG TIME. Once they identify the needed part, they suggested we find someone flying to Cancun to bring it.

Also if anyone has suggestions of message boards discussing this type of problem and possible solutions we would appreciate it.

Do i understand you correctly? You drove your Escape Hybrid to Cancun from the US?

Now you need someone that is going to Cancun in the US to obtain the part and deliver to you in Cancun?

Just need to make sense of the situation.

Never been to Mexico, for a good reason....
Since we are living in the 21st Centurie,
Would be mailing, shipping, registered parcel work?
I am in Canada, but maybe could help with shipping...
if the part is avail., here.

      Good luck.

Try the Car Talk boards. They love this kind of stuff. Good luck!

Could someone in the states pick up the part and overnight it to you? (Maybe overnighting doesn't work outside of the US?)

            Tidbits from Escape Forum

I recall one time having the Ford Econo-something cutting out. After awhile it would start... we could take off and soon it would die again. Eventually it would not start.
We had refueled 20 or so miles earlier.
To make a long story short... we took the gas cap off and it started up anmd ran fine. After a few miles we secured the cap. Had no more problem.
It was vapor-lock, air in the lines.

I looked through the forum and copied these items relating to stalling and/or cut out. Not much help, but somebody may could get an idea of the problem from reading these:
            -------------------------------------------------------------------------

The solution is replacing a PCM relay in the fuse box under hood. Try tapping on it with back end of screw driver, if engine stalls, you found the cause of stalling.
Also:Have the dealer check the PCM RELAY and IDLE SPEED.

Also: Simple. You remove the plastic cover from top the engine. Three nuts hold it on. You adjust the throttle stop screw on front of the throttlebody. Mine is set to idle at 800 rpm. Turn clockwise to open the throttle plate. Then loosen the 10mm bolt on the ECM. The connector will push off. Leave off for 5 minutes to RESET the ECM. Reattach the connector and start truck. It will take a couple of days for the ECM to relearn.

We do it all day long ,and it is Fords recommendation to raise base idle to prevent stalling on downhill coast. The IAC is set at approx.35%, which means the throttle plates are slightly open. Some GM and others set theirs at around 15% or throttle plates are almost closed. The PCM has to have a base idle to start with. Adjusted my own Escapes idle to prevent downhill stalling.

Stalling.. escapetek: To check if your "Base Idle" is set too low ,unplug the IAC when running, if it stalls then base idle is set to low, if it stays running then it should be ok. We set base idle by monitoring IAC air ratios in percentages not rpm. By turning base idle screw (clockwise) lowers the percentage but not actualy rasing rpm unless you turn to much. IAC should be around 35% .Can only monitor with a enhanced scan tool otherwise you are expermenting with air ratios. If you adjust so it wont stall when u unplug the IAC u should be close.

Also dirty throttlebodys raise IAC percentages. PCM must not rely on IAC to stay running...Dan<br><br>The two simple fixes are...Base idle too low, simple adjustment,Replacing the EEC relay with one from an Explorer..Fixes approx.90% of stalling problems.Have complete "LIST" of possible causes but have yet run across any that has caused stalling other than the relay and base idle adjustment.ESCAPETEK ,Dan

Veeerrrryyyy scary thing happened to me today...<br>Driving about 40mph, foot off of gas pedal, slightly downhill, on 4 lane road, traffic everywhere, all of a sudden, notice power steeringnot working, oil light is on, my XLT 2 wheel drive automatic has stalled!!!! Shifted into "N" and restarted... Thank goodness I did<br>not have to stop suddenly or swerve to miss someone! This is not a good sign. Had plenty of gas (over 3/4), and just got it out of the shop last week for the TSB fuel smell fix

Well, today I took mine in for the fix. Work was kinda slow today so I went back and watched them work on mine. Interesting thing was when they took the upper intake off it appeared that there was some leakage around the gaskets between the upper and lower intakes. Now the fix is to replace the lower intake gaskets. When the lower intake was removed all appeared to be OK. But they went ahead and replaced those gaskets because that's what the FIX is suppose to be. They wanted to go ahead and replace the upper gaskets because it appeared they could be leaking but they didn't have any in stock. So they put it back together and I'll drive it to see if the smell goes away. Today was not a good day to make this judgement after seeing the leakage because I can smell the "SMELL" right now at my computer in the house. "Figure That"!!!!!!!!!<br><br>The design and configuation of the two sets is different. The uppers are an oval shape and a light blue in color. The lowers, which are to be replaced are an oval with a hump on one side and are gray in color. The FIX replacements are a green color. Took about 2 or 2.5 hours to complete the work. Most everything on the engineabove the block has to be removed. <br><br>SOOOOOOOOOOO, after my nose and nasal cavaties clear we'll see what the outcome is. If that didn't do it then my dealer is going to order a new set of upper gaskets. <br><br>Dennis

Thanks for all the replies. Internet is expensive at Mayan Palace so I just purchased another 24 hours a few minutes ago.

Ford PDC/Cancun suggested we find a Spanish speaking person knowledgeable about a 2007 Ford Escape Hybrid. Master Vehicle Electrical Hazard Warning Lamp comes on within minutes of starting car. Indicates Hybrid component fault/failure that will cause the vehicle to shutdown or fail to start. (Page 16) owner's manual. Ford PDC/Cancun does not have diagnostic equipment for it and they NEED a Service Manual.

Update: Ford Customer Service USA called the dealer that sold us the vehicle. They emailed the dealer in Mexico. Neither are allowed to telephone each other because they don't call outside of their countries. Two hour time zone difference so by the tim...e California asked the Cancun/PDC dealer questions the technicians had gone home. Mexico dealer closes at 2pm Saturday but reopens on Monday even though most people in US will probably be off Monday.

We planned to drive to Acapulco on Saturday but it looks like we might need to remain in PDC/Cancun a while.

We cancelled Acapulco 2-16 Jan as we need to stay in PDC/Cancun until we solve this. I pray it can be solved in a few weeks.

My 24 internet package ends soon. I have been checking car forums online, facilitating communication between the service manager for our California Ford dealer and the Service Manager at Ford PDC/Cancun, updating my facebook and twitter status and added the webpage below:

                2007 Ford Escape Hybrid
Can you PLEASE help us with our 2007 Ford Escape Hybrid?
We will provide luxury accommodations, all inclusive food and alcoholic beverages to mechanic who can help or bring the part to help + the same for your guest.

We plan to enjoy the holiday weekend end. Then go online again on Monday trying to figure out if there is ANYTHING I can do to help resolve this.

ANY and ALL suggestions would be appreciated.

Could you tow it to the border and then get another tow truck in Texas to tow you in Texas?

I'm sure someone in Mexico would do this for you reasonably priced and then you could call AAA at the border.

Might be cheaper than trying to fix it in Cancun and paying to stay longer.

Sounds like if you try to do this in Mexico it's gonna be a long wait.

It sounds like you don't know that actual part you need? If you do, I'm happy to send it to you of course. Sounds like it has turned into more of a diagnostic thing though. I wonder how much it would cost to get the car shipped back to the US?

While you are waiting for answers, have them check the electric water-pump for proper operation. If necessary have it pulled apart to see if the ceramic impeller has broken. If not working right, battery will overheat.
There should be sensors to shut you down, to avoid damage.

i used to work as a ford dealer tech until the end of 2006 for 20 years.if you can get a code reader the plugs into the vehicle's obd2 jack you can probably get some kind of trouble code .then post the code and 2007 escape hybrid into google and you will probaly get your answer.i have 1 of those cheap $75 generic gadgets from autozone and thats what i did to diag the check engine light on my bros powerstroke f250.usually a warning light on in a still running vehicle indicates that some kind of sensor is out of operating spec.everything was diagnosed through the obd2 jack on all of the fords i ever worked on so i would suspect that would be the same on the hybrid drive system.if you know exactly what is wrong then you can figure out if it needs fixing now or if it can wait to be driven back to the states.just try plugging hybrid warning lighton 2007 escape hybrid into google.i posted my email in my member info-email me if you can get any more info

i googled this and it sounds like resort2me probably has the correct answer but pulling the codes with a code reader would confirm that the water pump needed to be checked.from what i read online the hybrid battery has a liquid cooling system that uses an electric water pump.the impellors are falling apart.there is also a filter in the system that should be changed .there is a website called alldata that you join .it gives you an online service manual.probably wouldnt take many tools to fix

We live in Northern California. Since we wanted to attend the Albuquerque NM Balloon Fiesta in October we crossed at Laredo, Texas into Nuevo Laredo. It took four 10 hour days to arrive in Playa del Carmen/Cancun area on the 4th night. That meant driving 10 hour days at relatively high speed on the maxipista (toll roads) through the central Sierra Madre (Mountains south of Rocky Mountains.)

IF we could buy a used vehicle AND flatbed trailer AND drive at a SAFE speed to enter the USA, it would probably take 10 days. We have six month visas and planned to get home by mid April 2011. It is just that we had reservations for Acapulco Jan 2-16, then Puerto Vallarta Resort - Velas Vallarta Suite Resort & Convention Center Jan 15-Feb 5, then Mazatlan Feb 5-Mar 19 at Mayan then Mar 21-April 4 at Pueblo Bonito. We are too late to cancel Velas without a penalty.

We were at the Ford dealer again today. They are waiting for Ford in Mexico City to interpret the codes they receive from their diagnostic equipment because the codes from the diagnostic equipment do not make sense to Ford in Cancun/PDC or to our Ford dealer in California.

We appreciate all the comments and replies to this thread. We have discussed them with the service manager at Ford Cancun/PDC and Ford in California.

                            Thanks.
