  • Guess who I met yesterday?

Ok, it was NOT Chad Pennington. And I won't tease you and make you guess. But remember Jimbosee from TUG a while back, asking about that disgusting motel in New Jersey?

Well I met Jim and his lovely wife Pat yesterday at the Manhattan Club (thank goodness they decided on that instead!). We went to a few of my jewelry supply/bead haunts in the jewelry district (Pat makes beautiful things!) and then down to Soho for a late lunch. We had a fantastic day, they are just the nicest people and a wonderful couple; it was fascinating to hear about Australia (and Bali, where they spend a lot of time). We walked and walked and talked and talked. I forced them onto a subway to get from midtown to Soho (I ran out of patience trying to get a cab). We took a detour on the way home to stop at the Krispy Kreme in Penn Station, so it turned out to be a good thing we were on the subway!

Here's something to think about. They were here on a stop during their journey "round the world" on tickets that allow them to stop anywhere around the world, as long as they keep going in the same direction. I hope they post here when they finally get back home (Jim is a member), their itinerary sounded amazing. They also seem like tireless travelers, they even took a day trip to Niagara Falls while they were here.

Faust, they are headed to SFO in a week or two, but I think their internet access is pretty limited (especially this week at the MC). They leave tomorrow for Virginia.

    What no Pictures.
It's always fun to meet people that you know from these sites. I just wished my wife would feel the same way.

Nope no pics. My camera battery still wasn't charged, and Jim and Pat's daughters took the cameras with them to the Seaport.

I understand how your wife feels about meeting people from the boards. But with people who you "know" from here, it's great. I feel a much greater sense of community here after our get together a few months back. Pat and Jim were coming from so far away it seemed like a great opportunity; I am really glad to have spent some time with them and feel so much richer for it. Hopefully they got a glimpse of the city from an angle they might not have gotten otherwise. And I look forward to hearing from them about their travels, and maybe one day seeing them on their turf!!

        Avery,

That's terrific, you were their Big Apple Greeter.

I am sure that you were able to give them lots of good advice, and an insiders view of the city. Plus, you got to spend a little time with some very nice people.

        But, please......get your camera fixed......

BTW, I'm still keeping track of how many times you annoy me.

They took a "day trip" to Niagara Falls....I am speechless. That is +/- 16 hours of driving!

Glad you showed them around. That is what being a good host is all about.

I look forward to their pics and "travelogue" on Shaggy's forum.

              Lawren,

They didn't drive. They booked a tour that included a flight. Still plenty of travel time for one day, though.

Anyone up with Jimbosee? ... let me know where they are staying so I may greet them while they are in our area.
                I'd hate to miss them.

                  Got up with them

Caroll and I had crab cake sandwiches with them at YTP (Yorktown Pub) then visited old Ft Monroe (the one with the mote). Crossed under the James so they could see aircraft carriers and subs up close at NOB Norfolk.

Couldn't have asked for finer people to visit with. Their time here is just simply too short.

                    Rob,

I am SO glad you were able to meet them. I just feel like as much as we wanted to share wiht them, they were such a gift to us... and, yes, their time was too short, but could you imagine how long one would really to need to allow for a trip 'round the world to give each destination its due???

They seemed so delightful and gentle. Not having a care about themselves, just enjoying life.

I know when we GO, I plan what to do & see. They attended BG for a day, then the rest of their stay didn't matter. I seems so great to see people just living for today.

I'd sure like to visit Bali but it is so far away. How can one sit on a aircraft for so many hours? Jim said 17 hours from SFO into Australia. A few days later, 5-6 hours to Bali.

It was 26 hours each way from New York, and I would do it again if/when our schedules allow. We are hoping to get back there in a few years for our 20th anniversary...

I am hoping Fern and Faust pick up this thread re the Seedmans, and I know we have someone here from Wisconsin..??
