That is some pretty scarey stuff. It definately borders on infringement of personal privacy. Although, sometimes I think advertising stuff like this breeds trouble. I mean, talk about giving criminals more ideas?

          Wow!!!
          Scarry
This means any pictures posted on Craigslist is vulnerable....I do not like it. Is there a way to block the info so someone can not see where your location is?

Navigate to the picture on your computer, then right click on the photo. Select "Properties" from the menu that pops up.

When the "Properties" dialog box opens, select "Details" and look for any GPS data. Delete any information that is in the GPS area that you don't want available. If you don't see any GPS data you're OK After you close the "Properties" dialog, you might want to reopen and verify that the GPS data were removed.

BTW - this is the exact same technique that was used in the video clip to obtain the location data. The person was tracked by opening up the photo properties dialog box, and extracting the location coordinates.

            *******

Note that GPS data will be stored only if the camera has GPS capability. So if you are using a device that has GPS capability, such as a phone or camera with embedded GPS, you might want to see if there's a way that you can disable the GPS when taking photos.

Actually, this thread could be entitled "Be Careful Posting Anything On The Internet."

I have opened up Properties on several Internet photos, including on facebook, and none of them have had a "Details" option.

                  Is that typical?

I just checked several photos on google Images, and none of them have a "Details" option.

Can someone post one that does, so I can see what it looks like?

I sent this info to my daughter. She did a google search and found out how to turn off the GPS on her I-phone for the camera function only. She did a before and after photo, so we are able to see that yes, the GPS info is no longer on her pictures.

Thank for the information Frank. I had no idea.

If the camera that was used to take the photos doesn't have GPS capability, then the files it generates will not have GPS properties.

When I tried this with Facebook, looking at photos that a friend had posted, to get to photo properties I had to click in the link to download the photo. Then after saving the photo to my drive I was able to open photo properties.

An article on the radio this morning discussed technology that the police are using to locate paedophiles. It mentioned that they have been able to find a child and stop the abuse.

After seeing the GPS warning, I looked at many pictures and find no GPS indication. Does anyone see anywhere where the GPS is indicated on any photos posted on TS4Ms?

I was hoping to find many of the locations of the posted pictures,as I have no clue of what I'm looking at.

Too, I often have wished my camera indicated the location. Many of my photos, I haven't much clue as to exactly where taken.

WOW - Guess I'm going to stop taking pics with my cell phone for ebay and craigslist - back to the camera for me.

I did put a for sale post on craigslist yesterday. I went back to look at it - nothing in craigslist could be found. But, I copied the pic back to my computer and there was a lot more info. Including my name - because I called my PC my name when I first set it up!

I did notice when viewing the pic on my computer there is a box that says "remove properties and personal information". I would ASSUME this would wipe away the personal information prior to posting anywhere.
