This is the first time I have walked through a tornado destruction path. Amazing. Destroyed garage and the motor opener was found 3 houses away. No damage to one location and total destruction next to it. I have 7 trees in my yard, 6 went down. The one that did not fall was right next to the renter's cars.

Exit roads from I-94 to North are closed to keep lookers out. I want to get there to take picture for my insurance company. Going to be an interesting (and likely very expensive for me) next few days.
    Roughly, where is your rental?

Reading the reports, and getting a bearing on exactly which areas were damaged, it appears that one of the hardest hit areas in north Minneapolis is where my grandfathers house used to be, in the Jordan neighborhood along West Broadway, near Penn Ave. My dad grew up near James and Broadway (right behind Ken-Ray Chevrolet, if your memory goes back that far).
“Maybe you shouldn't dress like that.”

“This is a blouse and skirt. I don't know what you're talking about.”

    “You shouldn't wear that body.”

It's still tracking over us again tonight, with non-stop thunder.

Our dog has come outta the bathroom just once today. If I could teach her to pee in there, she would not have to leave that room.

Camden Neighborhood, 2 blocks south and west from the old Camden theater. If you were on 94, it would be between the Dowling and 49th Ave exits and to the west of that by a couple blocks. Or...if you memory is really good, do you remember Mimi? She was the woman in the car that sat on the poll at the auto junkyard. It is that area.

For anyone wondering about Mimi, she was a manikin, dressed in a bikini sitting in an open top convertible, and waving to those passing by her on the freeway. Long term landmark. The junkyard closed and Mimi was dressed in more clothing and some bible reference was on the car.

The City has said that if we can get trees/branches/trunks to the curb by June 10 they would pick them up for free. After having a quote of $1000 to cut and remove the big tree that fell, I am thinking of buying a chain saw and save myself $7-800. I have no idea what to look for in a chain saw, but think that a little research may pay off.

Be careful. Often, many more people are injured in the clean-up process than from the storms themselves.

                25 1/2 inches after yesterday.

Sunny this morning. High Risk stormy later today.

I don't know the area north of Jordan too much at all. But I do remember Mimi.

Sounds like a good enough reason to buy a chain saw. About ten years ago we had a big windstorm in our area, and a large and stately maple tree came down on a neighbor's house. Tree removal companies were so busy that he couldn't get anyone to come. I fired up mine and helped him get the branches off of the roof so he could tarp over the opening.

                  ****

As for deciding what to get, do some on-line research. You want to get one that is more than half the diameter of the largest branch you will need to cut; that way you can cut it two passes, from each side. And get at least one extra chain at the same time.

But with many people cleaning, you might find there has been a run on chain saws and you may have to take whatever happens to be left.

This weather is pretty nuts. My folks grew up in North MPLS. Everywhere from 35th and Thomas to 36th and Aldrich. I do volunteer work for a non profit christian group, Love INC. and have helped several people move to the area around Victory Memorial Drive. That area is going to be an ugly mess for quite some time.

Also, I spent 4 years in high school at Carthage, MO about 12-15 miles northeast of Joplin. I drove thru there a couple of years ago and stayed over night in Joplin. My heart goes out to all those who have been devastated by the storms/tornadoes.

God Bless Joplin. We are under a tornado watch right now. They've preempted Biggest Looser & Dancing w the Stars. They preemptied Oprah earlier today and theyy had so many calls that they are showing it at 3am.

Alot of people are upset but they should be concerned about their safety.

                            Stay safe everyone. shaggy

Mas, did you see Weber Park? Lots of trees into the pond. My place is 2 blocks to the south of the pool.

Power company is saying this is the largest area they have worked and have had to use maps to find out where the polls used to be. I expect it will be Friday before power it back on to the duplex.

Unfortunately, we are in a rainy period again. It would be nice to have dry weather for the cleanup. Still no word from insurance company, so I will get started with the chainsaw Thus/Fri evening and most of Sat and Sunday.

Yes, guy who was helping with clean up did die of heart attack. He was well known for his work with halks and falcons. I am going to try to avoid the same fate. I am going to let the local 'help' do much of the heavy work.
