My dad recently suffered from a stroke. He was quickly diagnosed at his local hospital and they began treatment. Then sent him on to a more major hospital in Portland, OR. By the time he got to Portland, the medical providers there could not tell whether he had had a stroke or not. Only the initial MRI taken at his local hospital enabled the medical providers to be certain that he had had a stroke (and the MRI results were not immediately available).
The stroke was right before Memorial Day and he has almost made a full recovery. He is still in therapy for some weakness in his legs.
This article is to help lay people be able to identify a stroke. Immediate treatment is one of the biggest factors in recovery.
