  • Tempurpedic vs. SleepNumber Beds

Anyone have any experience with either of those type of beds? I liked the Tempurpedic in the store, but have heard that it makes people hot and sweaty during the night because the memory foam doesn't breathe.

Years ago, my husband and I tried a Sleep number bed at the mall. He liked it. I wasn't impressed for the money. Now, we are starting to think about going to try it out again.

I'd like to hear from people who have had either before, or even something similar.

I can't help but would be interested to see what folks post. Though prices for these are most likley outrageous here in mexico. I am in market for new bed, since I spent so much time in mine when was ill...LOL

I miss my tempurpedic. My wife complained it was to hot so we got a different mattress. My back aches every morning now. I am trying to convince my wife to get an adjustable tempurpedic. The tempurpedic is pricey but worth it to me. The support it gave me was fantastic. I do not know anything about the sleep number.

I was a guest once for about a week and she had the Tempurpedic bed. It was in the spring so the heater was still on. It was the best bed I ever slept on as you feel absolutely no pressure points at all. It is even better than an old fashioned water bed that we used to have in the early 70's for over 10 years.

My friend had put this bed in her guest bedroom as she couldn't stand the bed when the temperature got a little warmer. It seems to bother some people but not everyone.

If you cannot sleep under a synthetic blanket and prefer cotton or wool, you better not get one because you may not like it either.

We did tons of research on this issue. We did not want to get the Tempurpedic because of the posts I read about it making you sweat. Plus, the Tempurpedic and Sleep Number are pricey. We settled for the Sealy Latex "Embody" plus we got an adjustable bed frame. We LOVE it. We purchased this for our second home down south, and are now looking into purchasing one for our primary home. We have king size. Since we wanted the adjustable bed frame, we needed to get 2 twin size x-long unless we wanted to go up and down together. We both wanted the option of adjusting our bed to our own preference. The total cost about 18 months ago was $4500. But a king size mattress and box spring would be about $3000. Good luck!

We have a sleep number split-king (twin x-long) adjustable bed and just love it. So much so, we bought a sleep number queen matress for our motor home. We've had the bed now for almost 10 years and still love it as much as when we first got it.

I have severe inflammatory arthritis and fibromyalgia and at one point was not able to sleep without being able to adjust the bed into certain positions and setting the matress to very soft. The sleep number adjustable was a life saver!

We are trying to decide as well because we're going to have to purchase a new mattress soon. We've done the Sleep Number presentation but thought it was a little pricey for what is more like an air mattress. We slept on a Tempurpedic several years ago at Starr Pass Resort in Tuscon and loved it but we also had the air conditioner on so the room was cool. I don't know what it would be like in a warmer room. One of the hotels we are staying at on our way back from Arizona this fall has Tempurpedic so I'm looking forward to trying one again. Will have to decide soon after that.

We had a sleep number bed, but when the DW went to a different room (before CPAP) I had the bed to myself. I roll too much for that type bed. If you stay in one spot, fine, but as you get to the edge of the air bladder, you loose the support you had in the middle.

Also, the divider between the air bladders is a different firmness than the bladder, so you will fell that too when you roll or turn.

I read the Mattress Expert Q and A blog for ages. They sell mattresses, but the guy seems to give good advice. He HATES memory foam. It wasn't an option for us b/c we didn't like it even trying it out in the showroom.

We ended up getting one of the Mattress Expert's two-sided mattresses (you'll see him describe it in the blog) and a two-inch latex mattress topper. Very supportive yet comfy. Here's the blog:

Thank you all for responding. We are going to the mall today to try out Sleep number and hopefully, the Westin Heavenly bed - if Nordstrom has one in the store.

I'm actually starting to think about just getting 2 twin beds and pushing them together. That way, we each can get exactly what we want. Hubby thinks that is a dumb idea.

Before our current Sleep number (with foam pad on top of it), we had twin beds on a king size headboard. They latch together at the bottom and you can then swing them apart for making them up but have them stay in place after that. I think I prefer the twins on the king size headboard; we like different temps. for sleeping and different firmness of the mattress. With the Sleep Number, we have different firmness, but the temperature issue remains (we neither one like electric mattress pads or electric blankets).

We just bought a king Tempurpedic about a month ago. I was concerned I would have issues with it being too warm, because I definitely like it much cooler than my wife. But surprisingly, feeling warm has not been an issue at all. The salesman was telling us that the newer Tempurpedic mattresses are made with a more "breathable" material, but I'm not sure that was true or just sales-speak.

We tried the "cloud" mattress, but felt it was too "jiggly", and just went with the top traditional Tempurpedic. No pressure points at all, which is great. It took a few days getting used to sleeping on it, but now I wouldn't go back to a traditional or air bladder mattress for anything. Very satisfied so far!

Hubby fell in love with one of the sleep number beds. It's a done deal. I insisted on the split top with the adjustable thing. That way, besides adjusting the firmness differently on both sides, we can adjust the head/feet incline as well. It will be here in about 2 weeks. 36 months interest free payments.

We did try the Westin heavenly bed at Nordstrom first. It didn't feel any differently than a normal spring pillow top mattress, but it didn't have the feather comfortable under the bottom sheet like the ones in the hotel rooms do. Too bad. It was about 1/5 the price of what we ended up with....

I think you will love your sleep number bed. Had one but when I moved I gave it away. I had to go buy another one after about a year as I was having trouble again with my back. Love the bed and my back does too!!!

I just priced out the adjustable frame with Sealy Embody Insightful for our L.I. home. One big problem with 2 twin X-Long...sheets are not easy to get at all. Most sheets are sets, and it is hard to find twin X-Long that is not in a set.
