  • Finally almost normal after Hurricane Irene

It's been a long 4 days. No power, phones, cable or cell phone service. So power is on, cable on, but still no Verizon cell service. The only way I can use my cell phone is drive one mile to the bay and point my phone to Connecticut. Our phones are roaming nonstop. But at least my land line is up and running again. I do not think I could ever live in Florida with the constant threat of hurricanes.

Try reprogramming your roaming on Verizon. It is very easy and may help. Dial *228 and then press 2 when requested. This will program your phone for the area where you are. I do it all the time whenever we travel out of our local area and then I reprogram is back when we come home. Verizon customer service told me about it.

Thanks. I just found out that the towers in the area are either damaged or without power. Apparently the backup batteries are all dying now. We still have many people in the dark. I just have to be patient.
