Perhaps that is why I'm not there.

Anyway, SIL has not decided what to do. Our sister-in-law quarters have been offered.
Not really but you have to be civil to the other person whose view you do not agree with.

Go and read some of the political forums where no monitoring is going on. All you read is vulgar language and nasty remarks to each other. We don't do that here.

Too off-topic to even say, "I've heard otherwise", so I won't.

Not wanting to identify the employer on the Internet, I will say that DOO is Director Of Operations.

            Ha!

Maybe for the Goo Goo candy company (a famous, in the south at least, Nashville confection).

He very well known employer has denied her unemployment compensation.

There should be a lesson for everyone here.

If she was fired, she gets unemployment. That's the law. shaggy

My understanding is that in some states, fired employees are not eligible for unemployment.

I just heard on Tuesday that my company laid off an employee with 44 years of service. I didn't know her, but I hope she got a good severance package and is able to take advantage of the retirement package that the company used to have. I believe the longer tenure people still can get a pension.

If the US unemployment insurance is anything like Canada's it depends on the circumstances of the dismissal as to whether or not insurance is granted.

Basically, the test is whether or not there was misconduct or wilful neglect in job duties which created the unemployment situation. It is up to the employer to prove it.

That exists in the US and the terminology used is "fired with cause" where I have experienced such.

Basically not performing job duties or turning up impared ( drink) etc.

If you are fired, I think the overwhelming expectation for most, is that you will be entitled to unemployment benfits, especially after working someplace for 15 years.

In Washington state, if you are laid off, you get unemployment. If you are fired, you *might* get unemployment - depending on why you were fired. Misconduct and Gross Misconduct are grounds for no unemployment benefits.

In any event, I hope your SIL fights the denial of benefits. There are two sides to everything, and the unemployment offices do listen to both. If the unemployment office has made a determination, she can always appeal as well.

It's hard to know the long story, but the short is that someone had it out for her. Whenever that is the case, they will find a way to get rid of whoever it is they want to get rid of. It's really not about doing a good job, loyalty, etc. It's about personalities and workplace game playing.

That is the lesson, that the workplace is full of backstabbing, game-playing, petty jealousies. It's often not about money or promotions, but just about making oneself appear to be better than other employees.

They are saying she did inappropriate time clock stuff. Her version is yes, she did, she clocked out for mandatory breaks, but kept working, because she had to to get everything done.

I had that under Hilton, that we were automatically docked for lunch even if we kept working, which we sometimes had to because of the work load.

I worked for myself up until retirement, and never had a time clock, sp stuff like that is petty, but to the real HR world it is important. People get paid to work and other people get paid to sit and look over time cards, and pass judgements. Unfortunately, the few who actually do tamper with the time clock, and we have had those, make that necessary I guess.

The good thing about our new management company is that they have rules, and also simple forms to fill out when the rules don't work. We have a time clock, but fill out a form for almost every night when we close and most of the mornings when we open . . . because the time clock is not available.

My boss trusts me to know how early I need to start to get done what needs to get done by opening, and that it varies day to day. When the work load is lighter, he just says something like, "No need to start before______," but he knows I already know that. We don't have mandatory breaks or meals.

Some people think that breaks and meals are required by law, but they are not.

my sister has similar problems in the workplace. she has a timid personality and they really give her a hard time. boss and coworker are best friends, coworker gets the best assignments, she gets the dregs, gets picked on constantly. She went blind in one eye, had the surgery, doctor was able to save the eye and she was told to stay out a month by doctor, but went back early. all the work was waiting for her, it is close up work and she was slow due to eye not being back to strength. got called in two days after she returned and criticized for the backlog of work with the coworker in the office smirking at her during the reprimand. she has been there over 20 years and she has another ten or so years before retirement and there are no jobs out there,
