I am another one that never takes my laptop on vacation. For us, vacation means getting away from all the routine stuff we do at home. The only downside is I face over 1,000 e-mails when I get back but it is worth it.

I always have someone stay at my home when gone and I have an alarm system and also two dogs, a shepherd and a not so friendly pitbull......so have had no issues.

We have left our home alone for weeks at a time with no problems at all.

Can't leave our home for weeks at a time as we have dogs and also gardener needs to get in to handle that, no snow to stop it all from growing LOL...and I used to have maid but not now...

Wish I had a condo now, home ownership is a burden....

We have gardener service as well but they don't need to get in the house. Our garden also grows all year as we don't have any snow, etc.

Good point JWC, but our homes are enclosed by locked gates and 12 foot walls, just the ways things are here....so gardener needs to get into gates and also bodega for supplies etc...and then the issue of someone taking dogs in and out and feeding etc...so if did not have dogs then could just go and give gardener approp. keys but at this point no way...

I remember hearing the story, as a child, about a friend of my grandmother's who went on a cruise and had her picture in the paper saying she was going on a cruise from this date to that. When she got home, her house was empty. This was way before internet was born. But it made an impression on me.

When my brother posted his wedding date on Facebook, I told him to remove it for similar reasons. The house may have all kinds of brand new gifts in it and no one is home. Even the neighbors may be at the wedding. He did a little research and promptly removed the information.

Just a bit of precaution and discretion never hurts anyone, but loose lips (and fingers) can cause a lot of trouble.

One other bit of information I read about. If you have a GPS that you leave in the car, don't have the "home" button programmed with your real home. I have it programmed for a convenience market about 1/4 mile from my house.

Incredibly valuable info on the GPS thanks....I agree best not to post the info of vacations etc....unless your home is to be still occupied...even then unless there is a reason no need to post it....I post many times as I have many hookups when on vacation etc...but my house is always occupied...too much so..LOL.

Having ignored this thread long enough, I can see some benefit in posting false travel plans, to keep our favorite little psycho cyber stalker off guard.

Hi there. How ya doing today? Screwing around with anyone in particular right now?
