Last day of school for my daughter is June 22, 2012....Is Branson really a big family area? i thought it was all retirees?
Yes, Branson is geared to all ages. It is a very family friendly destination, all of the shows are suitable for children, nothing off color. When my daughter was young she really enjoyed the Kirby Burch magic show and the Shanghai Acrobats.
There are many amusements like minature golf and an amusement park called Silver Dollar City. Not only does it have typical rides but also people throughout the park who are demonstrating various crafts.
Then there is the lake and associated activities like fishing and boating. There are many hiking trails in the area and the Mark Twain National Forest is near by.
I have to admit my daughter enjoyed Branson more when she was younger, not so much as a teen.
Last day of school here in Missouri is typically end of May, usually the Thursday or Friday before Memorial Day. If they had to take too many snow days, they might have to come back after June 1st. School starts back mid-August.

Funny that you should mention Van Burch in the same train of thought as family-friendly.
He and Bambi have divorced, he has been convicted of DUI and they are fighting a tax evasion case.

Peak peak is Fall-Christmas, tour bus and an older crowd, like Snowbird Season in FL. The shows would not survive without the "coaches", as those that did not cater to tour agents have found out. 2011 was a tough year for the shows, several announing plans to end their run. There is a sense that others are milking it for as long as they can, but are getting very stale.
Lower peak is summer, for the lakes, Steal Yur Dollar City, White Water, etc.
Timeshare availability begins to be affected when (mostly rural) schools get out. Here's a typical calendar:
Incidental local info . . . the hardest week to get Branson lodging is Veterans' Week in November.
