  • Comcast and Bank of America

After lengthy efforts, I got stuff settled with Comcast and Bank of America this week.

Here's something both had in common.

Dealing with their customer service via their website's message centers, I was not dealing with Americans. I eventually determined that with Comcast I was dealing with the Phillipines and with BOA, everyone had Hispanic names.

The foreigners just stonewalled things, and made no attempts to resolve them. Each communication was just a repitition of previous ones, as if their training was to wear the customer down.

In both cases, the resolution to the problems came about by telephone discussions with Americans. In those cases, the person understood, took action, and resolved the issues.

So, until you get to that person in each company, you might as well save your breath/fingers.

Call directly into the CEO's office (aka the office of the president) if having 'issues' with an account/mortgage etc with bank of America.

    The number is 1-704-386-5687

I'll tell em a stranger on the Internet told me to.

Similarly, to resolve on ongoing problem with CenturyLink, I passed it on the the Public Service Commissiion in our state. They called (!!!) and told me they no longer regulate phone companies, but gave me a toll-free number to CLink's home office, for the person that handles regulatory issues. They told me to tell CLink to PSC gave me the number.

Things I handed been working on for a long time (like Comcast and BOA) got straightened out immediately.

I went thru a mountain of bs after BOA took over my loan from Countrywide and the office of the president was where I finally got the ball rolling. Not knowing what your situation is/was, I thought I'd throw that number out for you or anyone who may read this so to not have to 'save their breath/fingers'.

As far as taking 'advice' from "a stranger on the internet"....isn't that what these fourms are for?

I drove the 60 miles to return our Comcast/Xfinity equipment and end our service March 27. Watched the guy close our account and hand me a receipt.

Then, got a bill for service from April 5 through May 4.

          Notified them.

In broken English they said, "Pay biil and we will refund your money next month."

We will probably get a late charge for not paying, and this will go on and on.

Do I know stupid when I see it?

Could not use an Expedia hotel reservation because of their pet policy. Didn't check in, just drove 22 hours instead.

I called Expedia (India or Pakistan) on the spot. They called the hotel, then called me and said they would call the hotel back in 30 minutes and if they don't charge Expedia, Expedia will refund our money.

I called hotel in 30 minutes and they told me they were not going to charge Expedia. Expedia never called them back. Charge did not get reversed.

I called Expedia India again, explained it all over again, and this guy called the hotel. Said we would get refund and sent an email saying that.

          Just waiting now.

When, and why, did doing business become so problematic?

Isn't off-shoring fun? Isn't it even better to know these and other companies get tax breaks for doing it?

I wonder if any responsible adult at some companies have ever assessed how much saving money by outsourcing and stonewalling costs them.

With our first experience with Comcast, this year, I made 12-15 contacts with obviously foreign Cust. Service Avoidance reps, which the accumulation of evidence is that they never intended to do anything about anything. They gave me a phone number to call for the local office in Port Charlotte, FL and I got the Phillipines. After telling me several times there was no one they could forward my issue to, a real American Lady in Ft. Myers called, saying my issue had been forwarded to her.

In 5 minutes she looked at the account, saw all the errors, corrected them, made the appropriate credits, set the monthly bill properly, and it was done.

With CenturyLink, I average probably 6 to 10 emails, where, again, the accumulation of evidence is that none of the reps intend to do anything about anything, before I have to call the Regulatory department in their home office, a number provided me by our state's Public Service Commission. Again, in less than 5 minutes, a lady ses the problem, corrects it, and we're good for another month.

Why not just have the first person on the first call or email handle to problem, and have it over with.

We do not intend to ever do business with Comcast again, and will get away from CLink if we can find an Internet provider.

Some people complain about DISH, but I have always found them to be very American, very understanding, very helpful, very fair, and get stuff done the first time. Our hard drive had to be deleted and rebooted/reconfigured Saturday, and a nice lady with a southern (USA) accent stayed on the phone all the way through it, assuring me that if we could not get it back up they would send us a new receiver. They got our Pause rate right the first time.

BOA seems to be almost all latinos, so I don't know what their deal is.

To be fair, i can't think of a single person who would associate the 'southern' with intelligence, now don't get me wrong, this isn't a crack at the members on here who are smart in spite of being southern, just pointing out the effects of decades upon decades of inbreeding and trailer park lifestyles

I'm sorry, I find that to be factually inaccurate, you see, i grew up in NY, actually Long Island to be specific and still live there! The term for unintelligent New Yorkers is, "Southern Transplants", I've never lived in the south, so it is factually inaccurate to call me "dumber than dirt."

                              Well!!

Apparently they do not have dirt in NY?

Actually, I try to make it a rule never to get into discussions with radicals, or with individuals whose IQ appears to be one click or more south of that of a moron.
