        I had a surprise today.

I noticed that our cable modem and wireless router here are on, with all the right lights lit. When I checked available wireless networks, there it is "connected" with an excellent signal.

But, at first nothing would connect. Finally, it connected to a Comcast page that over-rode my default start page. It was asking me to self-reactivate our account.

        Sneaky little devils!!!

Speaking of devils, I am considering dancing with it again if they will give us Internet only with no contract.

Anyone have any experience with this self-activation thingie?

For TV, we will be Snowbirding DISH. They're coming out Tuesday to put up an antenna.

Well, I'm dancin' with the Devil again. Internet only, $24.99/month for first six months, with no contract. They flipped it on while I was on the phone with them. Now I'm using it.

I was promised there are no installation fees (like, duh, it came on as we were talking and I didn't see anyone out front climbing on the pole!!!!), maybe a $5 change-of-service fee, no termination fee, no surprises.

          Surprises will be posted.

Damn, am I easy!? I bet you could talk me into buying a timeshare!!!!

            I'm on a run of 2 days.

Late last night I lost Internet. A half-dozen self-helps failed, so I waited for a real person, who turned our to appear to be someone speaking the same language.

He tried a few things and then asked if there was a splitter in the line. Well, duh!, we did have both TV and Internet, so . . .

He said take it out and hook the modem up direct.

            Wahallah!!!

When I view our account online, I see we had a $51 credit when the dust settled in June. But, they have written that off in a series of stuff I can't see.

              The first sign of trouble.

I have been watching our account online, expecting the worst, & they have not disappointed. Until this morning it showed that we have only Internet. Today it shows Internet and TV.

and maybe tomorrow I'll copy Pam Bondi on my Comast emails. It was only after doing that a real person from the USA called last time.

The explanation du jour is they cannot open the second Icon (Internet) without having the first one (TV) open (although it was that way for two days.) I have been assured we only have Internet.

DISH was here today, and installed an antenna a cable into where our receiver will go, when it comes down next month.

I put up an antenna to get free TV, for the times when we won';t have our DISH here.

I'm getting 32 signals, but need an amplifier (called a preamplifier, I guess) to make half of them viewable. I've found out that getting one of those isn't as simple as a trip to Wal Mart any more.

The number of viewable channels greatly varies according to time of day. Early morning is the best.

I was able to get key games, like ND/USC.

Actually, I did find an amp at Wal*Mart.

But, it actually makes the signal worse.

That's the first place I went. The guy handed me one and said it was $59. I said, "Wow! For that I'll be bringing it right back if it doesn't do anything."

                            "We don't do refunds."

                            "Huh?"

                            "We don't do refunds."

"Well, if you don't guarantee what you sell, I can't buy it."

"Oh, we guarantee it works; we just don't do refunds."

It is doing fairly good without a pre-amp. If something is fluttering, I go out and move rotate the antenna a bit with a broom.

In a couple weeks I'll have our DISH.
