Sharon (3kids4me) needs help

Sharon one of the mods here last month had emergency surgery to repair four hernias that weren't seen on imaging, but am now she is having some complications and is looking for a surgeon for a scond opinion in New York City area. I have no idea who I can recomend anybody know a good Doctor that she can see?

Hernia Surgeon

Well, he is not in New York, but I had a large hernia repaired by a Doctor Berger at Mass General Hospital in Boston a few years ago. David Berger I think. He had a very confident manner and assured me before hand I would have no problems afterward. It was an outpatient operation. One week to recover and not a single problem since.

I don't know what other surgery he does, but he does many hernia surgeries. One day a week, every week, Wednesday maybe, I think he said he does a half dozen. I think he is an excellent surgeon and could probably help Sharon. It's worth a phone conversation if possible and probably a short trip. He did not use Laprascopic surgery, but an incision and mesh.

Sorry for the late response. I seem to be one of the unlucky ones whose implanted mesh has entrapped a nerve. I am going for some other opinions (some surgeons won't see you if you have already been operated on by another) and doing a lot of research on mesh complications. I'm seeing two surgeons this week for second (and third) opinions about whether the mesh can be removed (most seem to warn against this as it can make things worse) or whether my symptoms might improve with time. Thank you to all of you for the suggestions, some of which I am actively using. Will report in when I have a better idea of what I'm dealing with. Thanks again.

Hang in there! I know it is frustrating dealing with subsequent surgeons. It is like a club where no one wants to comment on the other surgeons work or deal with the exposure down the road where the first surgeon can say that it wasnt their work that caused the problem, but the second surgeon's. I am also not sure of your circumstances, whethor it was a surgeon error or just one of those things where you were just unlucky that it happened to you. No matter what, just hang in there, you will get the answers you need, it is just sad that you have to go through a lot of frustration and BS first.

The mesh that they use to repair hernias is a fabric that is sewn into place to reinforce your own abdominal wall when a part is herniated. On the record of your surgery will be a bar-coded sticker that was taken off of the package that contained the mesh they used. From that they can determine the manufacturer, lot number etc. Hope you are doing/feeling better.
