  • Oh, The Glory of Being an Elected Official

Rita and I were due to check in at Coconut Palms, New Smyrna Beach, FL last Friday. On Tuesday of last week our Governor issued a call for a special session of the Kentucky Legislature, beginning on Thursday. So, here I am on Tuesday, June 27, sitting in my office whiling away time between a 30 minute session this morning and the next one beginning at 10 AM tomorrow (which, hopefully, will be the last day of this special session) rather than sitting on my balcony looking at the Atlantic surf.

To add misery, Southwest is having a sale, and we could fly to Tampa in August for $214 RT for the both of us, with an available unit on the Gulf, and when I ask Rita if she would like to go to Tampa-St. Pete in August, she reminded me that our fund raiser (an unfortunate necessity of political life) is Aug 29, and she would be too busy with that to even consider the possibility.

    This is tiresome...

Things will be better when we get you elected as a US Senator and just imagine all the time off when you get to be President.

Melvin, I feel your pain, and I hope you know that you are valued in your role as legislator...you make a difference...so don't get discouraged....since you cannot be where you want to be, maybe plan a special dinner or outing with your wife to have "vacation at home".
Life is short, live it with this awareness.

        Major bummer.

        That is downright cruel, actually.

        I feel your pain.

          Back Home

Have completed the four-hour drive from the Capitol city and am back home, thinking about tomorrow being the day that I would have been checking out at Coconut Palms, New Smyrna Beach, FL.

Oh well, life goes on, and a missed opportunity is not the end of the world. There were several nice thank you notes in the accumulated mail from folks for whom I had done something or other, which eased the scratches some.
