  • Ebay - how long to wait for payment?

I decided to sell a few things on Ebay, so I would have more money on my trip next week. I'm used to people paying when the auction ends and I send the item out right after the payment is made. I have an item that sold on Saturday, that hasn't been paid, yet. I sent an invoice yesterday. I'm just wondering how long I am supposed to wait before I can cancel the sale.

The buyer has 100% positive feedback and over 100 purchases. My real concern is that I need to ship it out before Friday. If it isn't paid in time for me to send it by then, it will be at least 10 days until I'll be able to ship it.

They might be sending you a Check, Did you email and explain your concern. If you did and there was no response I would use the contact method on Ebay to get the persons Phone #, You can only get it when you did a transaction with them and that you did.

Presley I sell on ebay a lot. Actually have two stores.
I'd email them right away and send an invoice thru the send an invoice link which you've already done. Explain in the email that if they don't pay by a certain deadline date that you will give them the option to have the item shipped after you return or they can cancel the sale. If they never pay, the new feedback system isn't supposed to let them leave you a negative. These days ebay expects sellers to bend over backwards for buyers. Try not to anger them in your communications and keep the communications in the ebay system.

You can start the process of an unpaid item claim after 4 days but I'm lenient so I wait 7 days after I email them several times before opening a case.
Many times it's buyers remorse but I suspect that many times it's also that people who bid on auctions forget about them and don't realize they've won.
      It's even happened to me.

That's why I now prefer "buy it now" in my new store over auctions and require immediate payment now.
It's much less frustrating but you can't do it with auctions unless you add a buy it now to your auction.

I took Chris' advice recently. I sent an invoice right away, then I contacted them after a week. After 10 days I opened a case with ebay. I guess they contacted her, because I was paid 2 days later. I left positive feedback because I got paid and I did not want to risk negative feedback as a seller. I suppose I could have just not left feedback, but that did not occur to me.

          For rentals I use,
As our rentals are time sensitive, we reserve the right to sell this to another party if payment isn't received within 3 working days from the time we send you an invoice.
If it was something that doesn't spoil(use date) I would wait the 10 days , Greg

You have to wait 4 full days before filing a UPI; so if the buyer has not paid by Wednesday (and at the same time the auction ended) you are free to file the UPI. However, since the buyer doesn't appear to be a deadbeat, you should email them now and explain the situation.

I heard from the buyer today. It is just a case of not having the money for a few days. I told her that if it is paid by this weekend, it will go out right away. If not, it will be over a week.
