  • Allergic to AC?????

Not really allergic, but does anyone know anyone who is susceptible to AC, or fan-forced cool air, or cool breezy summer evenings, but only when it is very hot, say above 90? Anything you, or they, can do about it?

My sinuses totally clog up under those conditions.

My parents kept the AC at 68 when I was a teenager, and I had to keep the vent in my bedroom shut off during the summer in order to sleep. I took the battery of allergy tests when I was 16-ish, and that was the conclusion . . . susceptible to cool breezes when it is very hot. I'm close to doing that now, shutting off the AC to the bedroom and sleeping in the heat.

I was outside in the heat yesterday from 5:15 AM until 5:00 PM, and within minutes of getting back home and being in the AC, I was stopped up, and was all night.

What I call AC colds. I am convinced that the changes in temperature bring on congestion in summertime. You go from a cold car to outdoor heat to indoor cool. What could go wrong?

I will get a summer cold if I sleep with a fan on me. For AC, not sure on that. Have the house ductwork cleaned and change filters more often than normal.

        Tony: exactly

BG: It's all AC and cool breezes in hot weather, everywhere, for 50 years now. That would be a lot of ductwork I need to clean and filters I need to change.

FWIW, we have eliminated our whole-house HVAC since we got a winter place elsewhere, and are just using windows units at our summer place.

          Hmmm...

You sure it is not the scent of the OF herd being vented in through the AC?

Turn the AC up to 78. Works for me.

LOL. Actually I'm not that young any more but I use Hunter fans in every room so that helps.

I think it's less about age than about individuality. I was most comfortable at 65-70 degrees as a kid (spent my summer days in the basement) as well as now, and eldest is the same way. Youngest daughter likes it much closer to eighty.

Dr. Oz said today that a 10 degree drop in temperate within an hour will trigger a runny nose.

My ear has been plugged for nine days now. I googled it and one of the options on all sites is wait it out. That comes right after take antibiotics and decongestants, minor surgery, and chiropractic manipulation of the jaw. One site said total drainage could take as long as nine months.

I remember once getting water in my ear after swimming and it clogged the ear for about 3 months then one day it just opened up and everthing went back to normal.
