We will be moving to Tennessee in the near future. A lot of homes in our new subdivision and in the area have Security Systems installed or at least Security System Signs in their front yard by their house. We don't have one in Missouri nor do any of the folks in our subdivision that I am aware of at the time. What is your take on Security Systems for your home?

Expensive and a sign on the front lawn just tells passers by that you have something you don't want stolen. If the area is really that bad, then it needs to be a living expense for personal safety.

In todays world, I think that anything that gives you advance warning that someone is breaking into your home is a good thing (assuming you are home) or anything that makes enough noise that the neighbors will stop and look at the house because of the siren will cause a BG to think twice about what they are doing (In case you were not home).

We live in a troubled world where people will kill another for $20 to buy a single fix worth of drugs and home invasions are more and more violent. I don't see a security system as a complete fix but I see a security system as one layer of protection for you and your property.

We had a security system installed when we built our home (cheaper that way) because we are out in the country. We hardly use it unless we are on vacation. The few times we set the alarm when we left, the darn thing would go off. The company would call the phone # we left, or us, and then the police would be told to come. Everything would be fine. DD would come out and check things out and there was nothing wrong...nothing fell to set off the motion detector, no signs of anyone trying to get in. So now we don't set the motion detector on when we leave...just in case a bug or bird goes by to set it off. The security company has no idea what's causing the problem.
Our neighbor has a more sophisticated system. When we were there and she set off the smoke alarm the alarm company talked to her over the system..no he didn't call her...to ask if she needed the fire department. She also installed a closed circuit TV to monitor what was going on out side and who was at her door. She is a widow and the house is empty 6 months out of the year and has had a lot of vandalism prior to our moving 'almost' next door.

So you can get all sort of systems for what ever you want to spend.
