Ryanair pursues pilots’ site in court
RYANAIR has taken a case to the California superior court in an effort to unmask 17 users of a popular online pilots’ forum whom it claims defamed the airline.
Ryanair says the anonymous users have wrongly impugned its safety and business standards.
…
The list of 17 usernames who have posted allegedly defamatory material against Ryanair includes BigFrank, Built4Speed and Silverhawk.
In its court submission Ryanair said it believed the posters were alter egos or co-conspirators.
It has claimed some of the posts are defamatory because they “charge that Ryanair engaged in improper practices and dishonesty in business”.
…
The airline accused the defendants of malice, fraud and oppression. It wants a court order to have the posts permanently removed.
The airline has also petitioned for general, special and punitive damages in excess of $25,000 (€19,000).
Ryanair said it needed the identities behind all 17 online pseudonyms so it could serve them with legal papers.
