I am looking at giving a senior discount at our business. The thing is, 90% of our clients would probably be eligible. So, I am wondering what the normal cut off is for senior discounts at stores, etc.

The poll doesn't really match your question. You want to know what is the typical age for offering senior discounts. The poll is asking at what age one is considered to be a senior. These are two different things.

It depends on what your business is. Hotels typically use 55-60 as the age to get discounts. Restaurants typically vary from 55-62. Airlines are typically 65. This following list will geive you a good idea what age others use.

but meanwhile, at whatever age I am, that is the exact threshold age at which I feel that I deserve a discount ; )

Once in a while someone will give my husband a senior discount because he is all gray. He is hitting 55 this year, so in some circles he will really be eligible. I'm still in my 40s, so if someone offered me a senior discount I'd have to behead them.

I don't think it is a matter of deserving a discount. After all, being on this earth for a certain number of years is not a reason to deserve a discount. However, my mother didn't raise a fool so I will take whatever discounts somebody will give me even though I didn't do anything to earn them.

At many places, especially restaurants, you have to ask for the discount regardless of how old you may appear. They don't want to risk insulting anybody.

Off track ~ this thread reminded me.... Many years ago, the day after DH and I were married, we stopped into a little diner for breakfast. The waitress came over, and took DH order, (I thought this was strange ~ that she didn't ask me first ~ but whatever...). Then she asked him and what will your DAUGHTER have? I was insulted at the time ... but have since come to appreciate looking young!!

You will get different answers dependent on the age group you ask. Someone in their thirties may consider 50 plus as senior. Ask a 50 year old and there likely to say 60 plus. You get the general idea.
