  • We Need To Lose Weight...and fast!!!

OK, summer is here.....we spent the weekend in the Hampton's watching all the beautiful, thin people on the beach. My husband told me he felt like a "whale".

I'm pretty thin, but still have gained some weight recently, and can also shed a few pounds.

My husband wants to start a diet today, and I am trying to figure out a realistic diet that we will be able to follow. Does anybody have any suggestions on a diet that has worked for them?

There are so many diets out there, I am not really sure which one I should follow.....

    Angela,

I have met you. You are a stick! And your husband was no beluga either.

It's those crazy Hamptons where everyone is a size zero. Do not be assimilated!

      Sharon,

I had exactly the same thought.

Angela, if you really want to fit in, skip the diet. Go directly to the plastic surgeon, then spend 3 hours per day in the gym...

I opt for a nice cover-up, and I'm no bigger than Angela.

LOL....I'm glad that you guys don't think my husband looks like a "whale". He has gained some weight though. He is probably 15-20 pounds heavier than when you say him.

He really wants to lose some weight and try and get back in shape. I picked up "The South Beach Diet" book this morning. One the cover it said "lose belly fat first!". I thought that sounded like a good idea. I have never tried a actual planned diet, so I do not know what to expect.

        Avery,

I would never get plastic surgeory....I'm way too afraid for that. I have no problem with other people getting work done. But, it's just for me. And, the gym holds no appeal for me either. I guess I will have to invest in a few cover-ups.....

You can lose 15 LBS on this diet in 9 days if you follow it to a T. Te first two days are the hardest but after that it is easy. I lost 50 lbs on this diet. If you want to order it I have afriend that sells it. I also believe some of our members sell it to.

            Frank,

I have never heard of this...Is it a diet plan, or a product that you ingest, or both?

You and Avery have made me self-conscious right before I head for the beach Friday. If either of you turned sideways you'd disappear.

              THANKS A LOT!

I have a lot of luck with the first 2 weeks of Atkins. If I was real strick I'd drop 12 to 15 pounds. I just haven't had the energy to do it this year.

The first two days you do not eat anything. You drink this stuff that cleanses you and I mean it really cleans you right out. It removes all the toxins in your body. After the two days you drink a shake twice a day and eat whatever you want for dinner for 5 days. Then for the last 2 days you cleanse again. You should be able to lose 15 pounds with ease and feel great while losing. You may not lose that much since you do not have as much fat as I had. I came close to losing 20 pounds in the first 10 days.

Nag Alert: Please be sure to check with your doctor before starting any diet.

personally, I Hate Diets - I would rather work my butt off in the gym. I have cut out a lot of "bad" foods and replaced them with healthier fare. More salads, fish and fruit, less burgers, pop and ice cream.

If you hate gyms, might I suggest the two of you begin some other physical activity together - a long walk after dinner, take up tennis, start biking, whatever, it burns calories.

                    lawren,

I'm sorry, the last thing I meant to do was to make any one feel self-conscious.....

Don't worry, you're gonna look great in your bathing suit. I think maybe Sharon was right, in the Hamptons, everyone looks almost anorexic. It can get to you if you let it.

My husband is over-weight at this point though. He needs to lose some weight with one of these diets.

BTW, have a wonderful vacation. Where are you going?

                      Frank,

I don't know if my husband can go two days without eating. I will tell him about the diet, and your success.

We will talk about it when he gets home from work. Thanks for the info.

I know that you're right. We really do need to get more active. We used to play tennis, but now mostly golf. I need to be the one who takes charge here. Maybe will will start walking after dinner.

                          Angela I was teasing.

Both DH and I could stand to lose a few, ah well, as long as kids don't start running around yelling "Whale on the Beach"!

We will be at Celebrity Brigantine Beach. I hear the units are just OK and that is fine by me because it is BEACHFRONT! Beachfront always trumps "glitz" in my book.

There is wi-fi so I'll be in touch and also post some resort/unit photos.

Just be aware that rapid weight loss from fasting often means even faster weight gain when you start eating again. Yo-yo weight changes seem to build up over time and make weight loss more difficult to attain and even more difficult to maintain.
I understand BigFrank had a lot of weight to lose so the crash diet might well have worked there. If you have only a comparatively small amount of weight to lose you will be better advised simply to cut out the rubbish and add more exercise. Just doing that should enable you to lose 2 or 3 pounds per week.

I hate to say but diet pills and potions do not work because when you stop, you put more weight on than before. These diets are crazy and you cannot stay with them for long. There was a topic here before about losing weight as some people had joined "Weight Watchers". Our friend did too but she didn't like it and it was expensive too. Every time she stopped going there, she put more weight on. It is scary.

Losing weight is simple if you change your eating habits by eating healthier foods and make the portions smaller and do some moderate exercising or simply start walking! Too much exercise is very dangerous but people get a high from it and can't stop it. I know a person like that too and she looks so thin and awful. She tells me herself that she is hooked.

We have also put more weight on than we like because we stopped walking when our little dog died. She would sit in front of the door until we had taken her for a walk and we would do it for her but not for ourselves. A dog is a great motivator as all dogs love to walk.
