I know there are some anti-gym people, but I want to put some info out there for ya - strength-training.
Yeah, yeah, I know, but here is a fact: lean muscle burns more calories to maintain than does fat. If you just lift weights twice a week, not only have you increased your strength but sitting on the couch will now burn more calories than had you NOT lifted weights.
I've been lifting 3 times a week since October and have noticed a big difference in how I look and feel. The scale, well, it has moved some, but my clothes got bigger and that's the result I'm really looking for.
I change my workout every 4 - 6 weeks and I've swung back to doing more cardio and doing different strength exercises (a class that includes light weights plus a different set of machines than I used the past month+). I'm adding more swimming, and longer sessions on the elliptical, going for an hour a day of increased heart rate.
If you are able to implement some strength training and cardio along with sensible eating, you've got the recipe for success. I have another 20 pounds to go until I'm where I want to be - goal is to dump 10 of them in July. Meanwhile, Pilates has been helping me look better with my extra weight. SO EASY TO DO AT HOME, tho it's recommended you start with a class so you understand the basic tenets.
Whatever your plan, please ease into it. There is nothing but grief to be gained by playing Weekend Warrior.
