Angela, you have no idea how mild our weather is here in comparison to the rest of the country. Yesterday, I smelled fire twice, while I was on the phone, but it was a very bad accident not far from here. A car must have caught on fire because we heard the firetrucks come by and the ambulance too. It's mild right now and all the windows are open. You can't beat our climate in Southern CA! JMHO.

I feel for ya Frank. Power outages suck. We have them pretty regularly here, not because of inclement weather, but rather poor system design. 12KV fuses blow with amazing consistency, leaving us with no power or, worse, backfeed through the neutral from the 110V leg (low voltage).

Solution? Heh...



That big ugly thing at lower right....Nice Kubota diesel engine running a 10KV generator.

Just yesterday one of the fuses popped out at the corner and started a grass fire. Fortunately, I heard the "gunshot" that they make and knew what it was and called 911 and got the tractor out to move some dirt if the FD was otherwise busy. Just a scorched pole and a bit of burned grass...and a power outage until PG&E got out to pop yet another fuse into the crossbar. While I was waiting for the FD, I took the tractor and cleared 50' around our two transformer poles, as owls tend to turn into flaming projectiles when their wings get caught in the 12KV downfeeds to the transformers.

Hey, it makes life interesting, right?
